such as pneumatic hammers and the like. and has for an object to provide a means for retaining the riveting set or die holder in operating engagement with the barrel of the riveting implement or gun, to prevent accidental discharge of the holder from the gun, should the latter be prematurely operated.
The invention comprehends amon other features, a means for locking the riveting set or die holder in the barrel of the implement or gun without however preventing operation of the holder to accomplish the work of riveting. It is well known that accidents occur in places where riveting guns are used, because of the premature operation, accidental or otherwise, of the gun before the die is placed against the rivet head or work to be operated upon. In instances of this character the force produced by the mechanism of the gun, discharges the holder therefrom causing damage to the person or object which the discharged holder strikes.- In order to overcome these defects I secure the die holder or riveting set so that it cannot he accidentally discharged from the barrel of the gun, with i suitablemeans for permitting the ready removal thereof from the gun when desired.

Referring more particularly to the views the numeral 10 indicates the riveting gun and 11, the barrel thereof, the latter being provided with a longitudinal groove 12 having a spring actuated releasingbutton 13 on the exterior thereof, said button includ-. ing a stem M 'extending inwardly to the barrel in opposed relation to the groove 12. The holder is indicated by the numeral 15 and includes a shank. 16 adapted to be slid into the barrel 11, said shank having a longitudinal rib 17 fitting the groove 12 to guide the holder longitudinally in the barrel. The holder has a longitudinal cut out portion 18 in which is seated a fiat spring element 19, one end of this element being embedded or suitably secured in one end of the cut out portion with the other end substantially free and adjacent the latter, said sprin element is formed or provided with a 100 ing head 20 adapted to operate in a groove 21, formed in the barrel in opposed relation to the groove 12 and thereby probarrel in order that the gun or implement may be operated in the usual manner of a pneumatic or other hammer.
Now when it isdesiredto remove the holder from the barrel, it is only necessary to press down upon the button 13 thereby causing a shoe 23 on the inner end of the stem 14 to bear against the head 20 and press itdownwardly into the cut out portion 18, moving the head-out of the plane of the abutting end 22 so that the holder can then be readily slid out of the barrel.
The device described is of a simple construction, consists of few parts and in pro viding the same for use with a pneumatic or other hammer, adapted particularly to riv- I eting, the holder will be properly retainedin operating position in the barrel on the gun and cannot be accidentally discharged. Although I have shown a particular form of my invention it will be understood that A I do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth n the specification and shown an 'i forming shoulders, of a tool holder includ-' ing a longitudinal rib engaging the channel and itself havlng a longitudinal channel diametrically opposite the rib, a resilient element in the channel last named;'an engaging device on the resilient element and proportioned for reception Within the channel last named prior to movement into the recess for engaging the shoulders, the recess being proportioned to permit of limited longitudinal movement of the tool holder,
and a spring mounted element countersunk in the body of the barrel and movable radially of the tool holder for forcing the engaging device into the channel to free the tool holder. y
