SAFETY-RAZOR.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patenten June 14, 1921.
Application mea January 21, 1918. serial No. 212,878.
T o all 'w 7mm t may concern Be' it known that I, WILLIAu E. ROSEN- BAUM, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of St.
` Louis and Stateof Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors, of 'which the following is a specification.
The primary object of this invention is to provide an improvement in safety razors in which the uses of the handle are twofold.
Another object is to provide an improvement in a razor blade holder in which the handle thereof is related to the receptacle for containing the holder.
A further object is to provide an improvement in a safety razor in which parts thereof are to be contained in the receptacle, and the handle of the razor holder is adapted to keep the receptacle closed.
Other and further objects-will appear in the specification and be specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference being p had to the accompanying drawings, exemplifying the invention, and in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing an improved receptacle for the razor blades and blade holder, with the handle of the holder mounted to the outside of the receptacle.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on the line II-II of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the receptacle open.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the razor holder, showing the razor blade carried thereby.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the razor holder handle.
Fig. 6 is a view showing the razor holder containing the. razor blade and the handle secured to the holder, the holder and razor blade being in section.
The main intent of this improvement is to provide a safety razor equipment which is condensed in the form of a small packet so that the same can be readily carried in one of the small pockets of the wearer, the receptacle containing the packet of razor blades and razor blade holder, being of a size just large enough to accommodate the same, whereas the handle is attached to the outside of the holder and incidentally forming a means for securely holding the receptacle closed.
' `Referring to the drawings, 1 designates I the receptacle which may be of metallic or any other suitable construction, the said receptacle comprising the container portion 2 and the swingingly mounted lid 3, said lid pleng secured to the portion 2vby the pine Formed on the front edge of the lid 3 is a longitudinally arranged upturned'lip 5,and secured to the front side of the portion 2 and paralleling the lip 5 is the downwardly turned lip 6, said lips approximately abutting each other when the receptacle is closed.
The razor holder 7 comprises a front plate Shaving a pair of rearwardly extending resilient portions 9, and a razor blade guard 10, said plate 8 and guard 9 supporting the razor blade 11 therebetween.
Formed on the guard 10 are a pair of outstanding handle engaging lips 12, and formed at one end of said lips is an abutting ortion 13.
The handle for the razor holder 7 comprises a tubular member 14 having a longitudinal yslot 15 extending the length of the tubular member, and lat the end of said tubular member are a pair of integrally bent portions 16, the ends of said portions 16 being bent outwardly, thereby forming a recess 17 in each of said portions 16, said recesses being engaged by the lips 12 formed on the guard 10 of the razor blade holder 7, and when the handle is engaged to said holder, the abutting portion 13 being engaged by the extending portions 16.
As shown more clearly in Fig. 2, the razor holder 7 and the pack of razor blades 18 are to be contained in the receptacle 1.
After the handle has been removed from the holder, and in order to keep the lid 3 in closed position on the receptacle, the lips 19 provided by the slot 15 are engaged in the respective grooves of the longitudinally arranged lips 5 and 6 of the closure, the handle 14 being slidingly moved on said lips until the extending portions 16 of the handle 14 abut one of the side walls 20 of the lid 3.
Uien the parts comprising the blade holder 7 and pack of razor blades 18 are mounted in the closure, and the handle has been mounted to the closure as just described, a small and neat packet or parcel is provided, which comprises a complete shaving outfit that can be readily carried on th person without being bundlesome. Y
What I Claim is:
l. In combination7 a receptacle7 an article to be contained in said receptacle, and a Vmember forming a combined fastener and handle for said receptacle and said article. 2. In combination, a receptacle, a blade holder to be contained in said receptacle, a handle for said holder bearing means whereby said handle can be carried lon the eX- terior of saidk receptacle, and there being means on said holder and on said handle whereby said holder can be attached to the end of said handle.
3. In combination7 a receptacle, a blade holder to be contained in said receptacle, a handle for said holder bearing means whereby said holder can, be secured thereto, and other means formed on said handle whereby said handle will serve as a fastener for said receptacle.
4f. In combination, a receptacle, a blade holderto be contained in said receptacle and a handle, eoperable means formed on the eXteriorof said receptacle and on said handle whereby said handle can be secured in a fastening manner relative to keeping said receptacle closed, and veoperable means formed on said holder and Said handle whereby they can be secured to each other.
