' STRIKE OR KEEPER FOR RIM-LOCKS.
Application filed October 20, 1920. Serial No. 418,183.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER F. AUGEN- BRAUN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Stamford, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Strikes or Keepers for Rim-Locks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in strikes or keepers for rim locks, the object being to provide improved means for securing the strike against movement if the screws securing it to the door jainb should it become loose and also for lessening the possibility of its forcible removal by jimmying.
A further object is to provide means for taking the jars or stresses to which the strike is subjected by its frequent contact with the latch bolt, from the securing screws, thus preventing the strike from becoming loose.
With these and other obejcts in view, my invention consists in the details of construction as will be more fully explained and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a view of the strike secured to a door jamb; Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of the keeper removed; Fig. 3 is a similar view of the jamb prepared to receive the keeper; Fig. 4 is a view in section on the line 44: of Fig. 1 and Fig. 5 is a view in section on the line 55 of the same figure.
10 represents the door jamb mounted to receive the flange 11 of the strike or keeper 12. This strike or keeper overlaps the outer face of the door amb and is provided with the flange 11 to overlap the side edge of the latter, the said flange being provided with screw holes for the screws 13 which secure the strike to the jamb, and which of course are concealed when the door is closed.
The strike thus far described is substan tially identical with rim lock strikes now in common use, the improvement consisting in lugs 14 cast on the rear edge or face 15 of the strike, parallel with the flange 11 and adapted to enter holes 16 formed in the Patented May front face of the jamb, so that when the strike is 111' place, it will be held by the screws 13 and by the lugs 14: at right angles to the screws.
These lugs 14 are made comparatively heavy, and are preferably located adjacent each end of the bolt housing member of the strike, as shown, and each lug 14 is provided centrally with a pointed spur 17. which are employed for locating the holes 16. These lugs have a close fit within the holes 16 and together with the screws 13, se-
curely hold the strike in place against the,
' possibility of any lost movement due to'thescrews working loose, and also operate to take part of the strains to which the strike is subjected by its frequent Contact with the bolt, from off the screws, and of course assist in preventing the forcible removal of the strike by j immying or otherwise;
In order that the location of the holes 16 in the doorjambmay be quickly and accurately located, the lugs terminate in point-' ed spurs 17, so that after the mortise has been cut for the front face or flange. 11 of I claim as new and desire to secure by Let;
