To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, HERMAN A. GOLD- sToNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in BuyersGuides, of which the following is a specification.

AThe objects of my present'invention are to provide a simple and practical reference work particularly desirable for buyers in the selecting of various merchandise, which can be easily kept up-to-date and which will render the desired information practically automatically.

With these objects in view, ,the invention consists, in a general way, of a loose-leaf binder containing a set of index pages bearing indicia of different subjects and affording a quick reference to pages located between them and which carry data relating to the subject-matter of such index pages. These informative pages are also of looseleaf construction so that they may be readily placed in the binder; and they are provided with indicia showing the index pages with which they are to be associated.

The various other features of the invention l will appear as the specification proceeds.

In the accompanying drawing, I have illustrated a typical embodiment of my invention, but wish it understood that the structure may be modified in certain respects without departure from the true spirit and scope of the invention.V

In this drawing, Figure l is a plan view showing they invention embodied in a socalled buyers guide for general merchandise; Fig. 2 is an edge or end view showing particularly the binder construction.

The binder shown is of the ring type em,- bodying backs or covers 3 and i carrying the split-ring elements 5 which can be opened up when sheets are to be removed or inserted.

The index pages are designated 6, these being of loose-leaf construction to fit the binder.

As many of these index pages are provided as there are Subj ects to be classified and each of such index pages is provided with indicia such as indicated at 7 "of the subject-matter to which it refers. For the purpose of quick reference such indicia is preferably printed on the tabs 8 formed integral with the index pages, said tabs being offset from each other and standing out from the true edges of the pages so as to be readily readable and accessible.

^ 9 designates one of the subject matter pages. These pages are of loose-leaf construction to fit in the binder between the index pages and may be in the nature of advertisements displaying merchandise of different character. In the particular case illustratedA the page shown bears illustrations, description and prices of certain dresses. This page also bears on its face indicia of the date at 10 at which such prices and description are quoted, the name and address of the manufacturer at l1 and also indicia at 12, corresponding to the indicia on the tab of the index page with which said descriptive page is to be associated.

These descriptive pages are furnished to `the buyer by the manufacturer of the goods or by a central supply agency for instance, and give on their face all the necessary data as to such particular goods and the proper place at which such pages are to be inserted by the buyer. They may also bear instructions as to the keeping or destroying of previous pages bearing on the same subject and which may have become out of date. plied with this book the buyer of a big department store, for instance is enabled to turn-immediately to the class of goods he is interested in and to then select from the pages covering such goods the particular merchandise desired. The invention thus provides in a single orderly and well-classified book all the data and information which is ordinarily only found in the different and separate catalogues of 'different manufacturers.

I claim v A buyers guide comprising a loose-leaf binder, loose-leaf index pages releasably secured in said binder and provided with eX- posed tabs at the edges thereof bearing indicia of different classes of merchandise and Sup-Y loose-leaf page advertisements of different manufacturers all of substantially luniform size and insertible in the binder between the index pages aforesaid, said page advertisements bearing description data of the goods made by the manufacturers supplying the same, indicia on saidl advertisement pages corresponding With the indicia on the tabs of the index pages with which the advertisement pages are to be associated in the binder and indicia on each of the advertisement pages giving notice of the date on which the 10 informative data on that particular page is effective.
