To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOEN E. SPRINGER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Palo Alto, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Furniture,'of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates particularly to folding camp furniture, and it is the object of my invention to provide a folding structure that is capable of being collapsed into small space, that will be economical to manufacture, light in weight and that will be strong, durable and substantially rigid when set up for use. A further object of my invention'is to provide a frame forming a part of a structure or capable of independent use that will have the characteristics hereinbefore set forth.

Referring more particularly to the drawing 1-1 and 2-2 indicate the legs of the stool, the adjacent legs 1 and 2 being pivoted together at their central points as shown at 3. The upper ends of legs 1 are provided with pins 4 and the upper ends of legs 2 are provided with pins 5. A bar 6 is fitted on pins 1 as shown and a bar 7 is fitted on pins 5 as shown. At 8-8 are a pair of tie rods pivotally mounted in the upper portions of legs 2-2 and engaging orifices 9-9 in the adjacent ends of bar 7.

In each case where a rod is referred to as being pivotally mounted, the pivotally mounted end is bent at an angle to the main portion of the rod as indicated at 10 in Fig. 5, the end being then thrust through an orifice as 11 in the member upon which it is mounted and then riveted as at 12 over a washer as 13.

mounted in its upper end as shown.- The rods 15-15 are pivotally mounted upon the lower ends of legs 1-1 and the rods 16-16 are of the same length as rods15-15 and are pivotally mounted upon legs 1-1 at a point above the intersection ofv legs 2-2 there.

In its collapsed condition the frame assumes the position shownin Fig. 4:. Member 145 is now effectually held in a fixed position with relation to bar 6, and to legs 1-1 through the medium of rods 15- 16 and: 16-16, thereby thoroughly bracing and supporting the several members against lateral movement. The structure is collapsed by removing bars 6 and 7 and folding the several members and rods as shown in Fig. 4.

Considerable economy is effected in this construction since it eliminates the necessity of using dies in forming special parts and it permits the'use of the cheaper and lighter woods. V

It is to be understood that the embodiment shown is illustrative only and is in no way to be construed as limiting the scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims. I claim p 1. The combination with a pair of side members and an end member of a central member spaced a distance therefrom, a pair of bracing elements connecting said central member with each. of said side members, and a pair of elements connecting one end of said central member with said end member on one end of said central member anddeat points spaced a distance on each side of the median line thereof.

The combination of a pair of spaced side members, an end member removably mounted thereon, a central member spaced from said side and end members, a pair of bracing members connecting said central side members, an end member removably mounted thereon, a central member spaced fromv saidv side and end members, a pair oi bracing members pivotally connected to said central member and each ofsaid'side members, and a pair of elements mounted ta'chably connected to said end member'at points spaced a distance on each side of the v median line thereof.
