Be it knownthat I, THOMAS A. DE Vrnnrss, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a'certain new and useful Nasal Guard; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art i-to which it appertains to make and use the same, ref erence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the. characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to nasal spraying or locking devices, and particularly to a guard for use on' the discharge nozzle-thereof.

The object of the invention is the provision of simple and efficient means for attaching nasal guards or tips to the nozzles or nozzle carrying parts of atomizers or small instruments in a manner to facilitate an easy and quick placing of the same on or a removal thereof from said parts.

The invention is fully described in the following specification, and while, in its broader aspect, it is capable of embodiment in numerous forms, a preferred embodiment thereof is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,- v v Figure 1 is an elevation of an atomizer equipped with the invention. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view of an atomizer tube with the nasal guard in central longitudinal section thereon. Fig. 3 is an enlarged central longitudinal section of the guard, and Fig. 4 is an inner end view thereof with the rear edge wall of the centering member retaining recess turned outward.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the nozzle carrying tube of an atomizer or similar instrument, having the customary discharge nozzle 2 at its outer end.

The nasal guard or tip 8 embodying the invention is preferably madefrom sheet metal cylindrical in form with its rear end open and its front end closed, in the present instance, in substantially semispherical form,

except for a central opening 42 therein of suitable size to receive the outer end portion of the nozzle 2. The nozzle is preferably slightly tapered or reduced at its outerends to adapt it to seat closely in the guard opening and to limit its insertion therein.

The rear end of the guard, which is con siderablylarger in diameter the tubel, is centered on the tube by-aycentering and opposite ends in an internal recess 6 pro-. vided in the rear edged portion of the guard.

The member 5 preferably comprises a spring,- which is substantially centrally looped with 7 which cross each other and cooperate to form.

The normal size of the opening 9 is pref-v erably slightly less than the cross-sectional size of the tube 1 to cause the spring loops of the member 5 to firmly grip the tube, it being understood that the legs of the member yield to accommodate themselves to the size of the tube and also to permit an expansion of the opening to enable the passage of the tube nozzle therethrough, which nozzle is usually slightly larger in diameter than the tube.

In assembling the guard 3 and centering member 5 it is preferable'to place the ends of the member in the recess 6 when the outer edge wall of the recess is turned out, as shown in Fig. 4, thus enabling the member to be easily set within the recessed end of the guard, and to then turn the outer edge wall of the recess over the member. ends, as shown in Fig. 3, to retain the member therein. I wish it understood that my invention is not limited to any specific construction,"arrangement or form of the parts, as it is capable of numerous changes and modifications without departing from the spirit of the claims. I I

Having thus described. my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,

1. A nasal, guard of'the class described, having a tube receiving and centering spring therein.

2. A nasal guard of the class described,

comprising a tubular member'of nonyielding material, and an expandible tube centering member carried by said tubular, member in the rear end thereof.

having a spring wire tube-centering member therein provided with an eXpandible tube receiving opening which is normally of less size than the cross-sectional size of the tube to which it is fitted;

5. A nasal guard of the class described, of cylindrical form, with its rear end open and provided with an internal recess and with its front end provided with a relatively reduced center opening, and a spring wire tube-centering member in said guard provided with an expandible tube receiving opening and having its-ends seated in said recess.

6. A nasal guard of the class described,

having a tube-centering member therein' comprising a looped spring Wire with the leg portions thereof provided with inwardly extending loops which cross each other to cooperate to forma-tube receiving opening.

7.: A nasal guard of the class described, having a tube centering member therein composed of spring Wire which is looped to form a crown portion and leg portions with the crown seating against one side of the guard and with the ends of the legs seating against the opposite side of the guard, sai legs being inwardly looped substantially centrally of their ends with the loops crossing each other to cooperate to provide an expandible tube. receiving opening.

8. A nasal guard centering member comprising a wire looped on itself to form leg portions and having such leg portions inwardly looped vin crossing relation to each other to provide an expandible tube receiving opening. s r

9. A nasal guard of the class described, comprisin a tubular member of nonyielding material having the front ends" of its passage restricted to form a tube receiving and centering opening, anda tube centering member disposed'in the rear end portion of the tubular member and having an expandible tube receiving and centering opening.
