Be it known that I, TEorIL Pmorrowrozfa citizen of the United States, residing at Vauxhall. in the county ci Union and State of New Jersey, have invented new and use ful Improvements in Cleaning Implements, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cleaning implements.
Some of the objects of v the invention are; to improve upon the device covered by a patent granted to me July 15, 1919, having Patent Number 1,310,290, by simplifying the same; to arrange within the hollow head forming a part of the implement a baffle which traverses a water inlet in the top wall of said head to spread and equally distribute the water to overcome the Water pressure which tends to force the water through but a'small area of the cleaning element associated as a part of the device; to provide an implementwhich may be used in combination with a frame adaptedto retain different cleaning elements, there being means on said head which cooperate with means on said frame for holding the head, the frame and its cleaning element associated; to so construct the hollow head forming a part of the implement and the frame that by their association cleaning elements of different characters may be brought interchangeably into use. 7
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in the improved and simple construction and combination of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of the implement showing the manner in which it is used inconjunction with a cleaning element.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the implement with the cleaning element removed.
Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the frame which retains the cleaning elements forming a part of this invention.
Referringto the drawings, it will be seen that the cleaning implement comprises a' hollow head 10 having a top wall 11 and side and end walls 12 and 13 respectively. The top wall is provided with a water inlet '14 and the flow of water throughsaid inlet is Specification of Letters Patent.

controlled'by a valve 15 connected to the topwall 11 in communication with the inlet 14. A rubber tube 16 has connection at one end with the valve 15 and the other end thereof is connected to a suitable water supply source. Arranged within the hollow head 11 is a baffle 17 in the nature of an elongated flat plate. The baffle is arranged in spaced relation with respect to the top wall 11 and traverses the water inlet 14. The baffle 17 serves to spread out the flow of water so as to distribute it to all parts of the cleaning element thereby'avoiding the objection incident to the fountain brush shown in my other patent wherein the water has a tendency to flow within the confines of a :is provided with tines or prongs 21 which when the members 19 are brought together,
impale themselves into the cleaning element to be securely retained by the frame after it is arranged or associated with the hollow head 10. 7 Each of the members 19 at a point intermediate its length is provided with a lug 22. A retaining device 23 is carried by the head 10 and consists of a slotted portion 24 and lug engaging portions 25, which are adapted to engage the lugs 22 on the members 19 in the association of the frame 18 and its cleaning element with the head 10. A screw threaded stud 26 on the top wall 11 is received in the slot of the portion 24 and accommodates a thumb nut 27 which serves to hold the lug engaging portions of the retaining device in engagement with the lugs 22 on the frame 18 and at the same time permits the lug engaging portions to be moved out of engagement with the lugs 22 for the removal of the frame and its cleaning element from association with the head 10.
In associating the frame 18 and its particular cleaning element with the hollow head 10, the side and end' walls thereof serve to keep the prongs 21 impaled in the clean ing element 28, it being a spongein this para pair of members hingedly connected to-' hollow head having a water inlet, a frame forretaining a cleaning element, comprising a pair of members hingedly connected to-- gether, prongs on said members adapted to enter into the cleaning element, means on the frame cooperating with means on the hollow head for holding the frame and its cleaning element and the hollow head associated.

A cleaning implement comprising a hollow head having a Water inlet, a frame for retaining a cleaning element, comprising gether, prongs on said members adapted to enter into the cleaning element, lugs on each ofsaid members, a retaining device having lug engaging portions which engage said lugs to effect the association of the frame andc1 its cleaning element with the hollow hea V 3. A cleaning element embodying a' hollow h'ead'having side and end walls and a water inlet in the top wall thereof, a frame for retaining a cleaning element comprising a pair of members hingedly connected together, prongs on said members, means on the frame cooperating with means on the head for holding the frame associated with the head, the walls of said head serving to hold the prongs impaled in the cleaning element placed between said members.
