UNITED STATES CHESTER H. BEACH, OF RACINE,
WISCONSIN, ASSIG-NOR T MOORE ELECTRIC CORPO- RATION, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
MASSAGE-VIBRATOB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 15, 1921.
Application filed September 29, 1919. Serial No. 327,087.
To all 1.0]: am it may 0001 cam Be it known that 1 Cnnsrnn H. BEACH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Racine, county of Racine, and State of Wisconsin. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Massagelibrators, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in massage vibrators and has for its primary object the provision of an improved construction of this character capable of operating with little or no vibration, and simple and efiicient in use.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section of a vibrator embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the same, the cover cap removed, and
Fig. 4 is a detail view of the inner end of the operating shaft of the vibrator.
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawings, comprises a hollow spherical head, consisting of two separable hemispherical parts 5 and 6, separable along the medial p ane '7 and secured together by with means of screws 8. as shown. A
bearing hub or nipple 9 projects radially from one side of the head portion 5, and a handle 10 of hard rubber or other suitable material is secured to said hub by means of a screw 11. The hub 9 cooperates with an inwardly extending hub or nipple 9' forming an elongated shaft bearing to receive the operating shaft 12 of the vibrator. The shaft 12 is provided at its inner end with a stop collar 13 fitting against the inner end of the hub 9 and beyond that, with an eccentric 14 for operating the vibrating element. Another stop collar 15 is secured to the shaft 12 against the outer end of the hub 9, to prevent longitudinal movements of said shaft. An oil hole 16 leads to the shaft bearing and is controlled by means of a screw 17 as indicated. The shaft 12 also carries a head 18 secured thereto within the handle 10 and provided with a plurality of radially projecting felt pads or cushions 19, adapted to contact with an inclosing bearing sleeve 20 within the handle 10, said cushion head arrangement serving to hold the shaft correctly in the center of the handle and steady the motion of the shaft. At its outer end the shaft 12 is provided with the usual slotted socket 21 for connection with the usual flexible shaft for operating the same.
At one side the head portion 5 is provided with a laterally projecting supporting arm 22 on which is mounted an oscillatory lever 23 by means of a stud bolt 24, as shown. At its outer end the lever 23 carries a massage contact member 25 of any usual or desired construction. The inner end 26 of the lever 23 is extended through a slot or notch 27 in the side of the vibrator head, and is provided at its inner end with a ball 28, as shown. A link 29 in the form of a hollow sleeve having a slot 30 at one side for the insertion of the ball 28, is operatively connected with said ball, as shown. To effect this connection, bearing blocks 31 are fitted with the sleeve 29 and provided with concave inner faces equipped with leather washers 32 to embrace the bali '28 and form therewith a ball and socket connection, said bearing blocks 31 being held in place in the sleeve 29 by means of a cotter pin 33. At its other end, the sleeve 29 carries a square bearing head 34 having a centml bearing fitting loosely over the eccentric 14, and whereby a simple and eflective'operative connection is established between the lever 26 and the shaft 12. whichwill not produce vibrations of the vibrator head or handle during operation thereof. By this arrangement, it will be observed, that by removing the cover portion 6 of the head and the stud bolt 24. the parts may be readily taken apart and reassembled. An eye is provided on the head portion 6 opposite the handle 10 to serve as a convenient means for hangingup the vibrator when desired.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. 1, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of the construction set forth,
'aving invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: 7
l. A massage vibrator comprising a head; an operating shaft on said head; on eccentric on said shaft; an oscillatory lever mounted on said head; the outer end of said lever; a ball at the inner end of said lever; a link pivotally connected with said eccentric, said link being in the form of a hollow tube slotted at one side to receive said ball; and means for securing said ball in said tube, substantially as described.
2. A massage vibrator comprising a head; an operating shaft on said head; an eccentric on said shaft; an oscillatory lever mounted on said head; a contact member at the outer end of said lover; a ball at the inner endfof said lever; a'link pivotally connected with said eccentric, said link being in the formof a holloivtube slotted at one side to receive said ball; washers in said tube on opposite sides of said ball; and means for securing said Washer-sin said tube, substantially as describe 3. A massage vibrator comprising a head; an operating shaft on said head; an eecerr tric on said shaft; an oscillatory lever mounted on said head; a contact member at the outer end of said lever; a ball "at the inner end of said lever; a link ivotally connectcd with said eccentric, said link being in the form of a hollow tube slottedat one side to receive said ball; washers in said tube on opposite sides of said ball; and a cotter pin traversing the outer end of said tube to prevent displacement of said washers, substantially as described.
4 A massage vibrator, comprising a head; an operating shaft mounted on said head; yieldable cushions carried by said shaft; a bearing member contacting with said cushions; an eccentric on saidshaft; an oscillatory lever mounted on said head; a contact member at one end of said lever; and a link connected with said eccentric and the other end of'said lever, substantially as described.
A massage vibrator, oomprisinga head;
a contact member at an operating shaft mounted on. said head; yieldable cushions carried by said shaft; a bearing member contacting with said. cushions; an eccentric on said shaft; an oscillatory lever mounted on said head; a contact member-at one end of said lever; and a link connected with said eccentric and the other end of said lever, there bein a ball and socket connection between said lever and link, substantially as described.
6. A massage vibrator, comprising a hol low, substantially spherical head; a hollow handle projecting radially from said head; a shaft bearing at the inner end of said handle; a shaft mounted in said bearin and extending axially through said handle; a cushion head secured to said shaft and having radiallyprojecting felt cushions thereon; a bearing sleeve within said handle and contacting with said cushions; an eccentric at the inner end of said shaft; asuppnrting arm projecting laterall from one side of said head; a pivot bol t on said arm; an oscillatory lever pivotally mounted on said bolt, one end of said lever projecting into said head, there being a slot in the wall of said head permitting passage and operation of said lever end; a ball formedat tlreinner end of said lever; a link fitting loosely over said eccentric and having a ball; socket engaging said ball; and a contact member at the outer end of said lever, substantially as described. i
'7. A massage vibrator, comprising a hollow head; a handle radiating from said head; a shaft bearing at the inner end of said handle; a sharftm said shaft bearing; a cushion head secured to said shaft and operating in said handle; apl'uralityof felt pads carried by said cushionhead and pro jecting radially therefrom; and a bearing member in said handle surrounding cushion head and contacting with said pads, 95 substantially as described. a V
in testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing, witnesses.
