OLIVER E. 'IEALL, 0F SAUGERTIES, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO THE TISSUE COMPANY, OF SAUGERTIES, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
CONTAINER iron PAPER NAPKINS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application flied June 12, 1918. Serial No. 239,563.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, OLIVER E. TEALL, of Saugerties, in the county of Ulster and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Containers for Paper Napkins; and I do-hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of "the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
y invention relates to containers and particularly to that type of container employed in lunch-rooms for holding a supply of paper nap-kins.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and highly efiicient device of this character which will keep the napkins in orderly and sanitary condition, one napkin being at all times available for quick delivery.
I have shown in Figure 1 a erspective of one form of container embo ying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 22, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective of a modified form of container, and Fig. 4 a sectional detail of Fig. 3.
In the drawings, 1 designatesa base which is preferably square or rectangular in plan. At each corner of the base, and spaced inwardly from the edge thereof, is an upright member 2 of an approximate L-shape in cross section. These angular members form a guide or way for a plate 3 which is adapted to support a stack of paper napkins 4 the corners of the plate fitting in the angle of the guides. In Figs. 1 and 2 I have shown the napkins stacked in interlocking arrangement so that the withdrawal of one napkin will bring the edges of the succeeding one into position for ready grasping. A coiled spring 5 is interposed between the base 1 and the plate 3, its ends being attached, respectively, to these parts. The tension of the spring is such that the plate is constantly urged upwardly so that as the articles supported by the plate are removed the next adjacent article is forced into delivery position. A cover 10 which is preferably formed of glass and has a narrow slot-like opening 12 disposed centrally of its top is adapted to house the parts hereinbefore described, the cover fitting snugly to the base 1 and being detachably locked thereto through the instrumentality of its flanged lower edge 13 by spring clips 14. It is manifest that a thin strip of felt 15 may be employed for insuring a dust proof connection between the cover and the base.
In Fig. 3 I have shown a slightly difierent form of cover. The top of the cover 17 is cut away throughout its greater portion, leaving a flange 18 which acts to hold the edges of the napkins. In this form the latter are so folded that there is an exposed portion of one edge of the napkin, this exposed portion being free of the flanges 15} of the cover and permitting a ready finger hold on the napkin. The latter is readily freed by an upward pull.
I claim as my invention:
1. A container for paper napkins and the like including a base, a supporting plate,
upright members secured to said base and forming guides for said supporting plate, means acting on said plate tending to force it upwardly, and a cover comprising side walls and a top, the latter having an opening therein, said cover being designed to be detachably secured to said base plate.
2. A container for paper napkins and the like including a base, a supporting plate, upright angle members secured to said base and forming guides for said supporting plate, a coiled s ring secured to said base and said plate or forcing said plate upwardly and a cover comprising side walls and a top, the latter having an opening for the delivery of contained napkins, said cover being detachably secured to said base.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification. Y
OLIVER E. TEALL.
Correction in levers ,Patent No. 1,362,449.
It is hereby certified that Letters Patent No. 1,362,449, granted December 14 1920, upon the. application of Oliver E. Teall, of Saugerties, New York, for an improvement in Containers for Paper Napkins, were erroneously issued to the inventor, said Teall, and The Tissue Company, as joint owners of said invention, whereas said Letters Patent shouldhave been issued to The Tissue Company, as
assignee of the entire interest in said invention, as shown by therecords of assignments in this office; and that the said Letters Patent should be read with this correction therein that the same may conform to the record of the case in the 7 Patent Office.
Signed and sealodthis 4th day of January, A. D., 1921 L. B. MANN,
[SEAL] Acting Commissioner of Patents.
