BENJAMIN F. CLEMINSHA IV, OF TROY, NEV YORK.
liViPRGl/EMENT IN LUBRlCATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l35,?77, dated l `ebrl1ary 1l, 1871).
To all whom t 'may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. CLEM- INSHAW, of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer and in the State of N ew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam-Cylinder Lubricator; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, ciear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon ina-king a part ot' this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in thc construction and arrangement of a steamoylinder lubrica-tor, as will beihcreinai'ter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which rny invention appertains to make and use the saine, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring` to the annexed drawing, which is a vertical section of iny lubricator.
A represents the bowl of my lubricator, pro` vided with a screw-ste1n,l3, to be screwed into its place on the steamcylindcr. In the bottom of the bowl A is a bridge, O, cast with the bowl, through which is screwed the valve D to t in the conical valve-seat formed in the upper end of the stem B, and thus closing the lubricator. The top of' the bowl A is closed by a screw-head, E, screwed into the bowl, and on the top of the screwhea-d is screwed a stuing-box, G. Through this smiling-box and screw-head passes the wrench H, the
lower or inner end of which is made square, with a square recess in its under side to t over the upper end of the valve D, so as to open and close the same at pleasure.. In the under side ofthe screw-head Eis made a square recess, a, large enough to receive the lower square end ofthe wrench E when the same is drawn up, and by this means the screw-head can be screwed in and taken oli when desired. In the top of the bowl A is turned an annular recess, in which is a lead washer, b, and on thc screw-head E is formed a circular V-shaped bead, fi, which presses into said lead washer and forms a perfectly tight joint.
The lubricator thus constructed is extremely simple in its construction, has only one stui'l ing-box, the valve is inside of the bowl, and there is nothing on the outside but what will stand rough usage.
Having thus fully described my invention,v
what I claim as new Letters Patent, is
The wrench H, constructed as described and passing through the stuffing-box G and head E, for operating both said head and the valve l), substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 14th day of October, 1872.
BENJAMIN F. CLEMINSHAV.
