Description

W. F. STREICHI DRAWER STABILIZER. APPLICATION FILED DEC.26, I919.
Patented Sept. 14,1920.
' To all whom it may Specification of Letters Patent.
concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. STRnIoH, a citizen of'the United States. of America, and a resident of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Drawer- Stabilizers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is a means for guiding a drawer accurately in place, for preventing rattling between the-drawer and the sides of the cabinet or casing, and for preventing lateral movement between the drawer and drawer has been closed. 7 I
These and other objects are attained by the means described in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing,in which Figure 1, is a perspective view of a drawer stabilizer embodying my invention, the'parts being shown in an extended position.
Fig. 2, is a perspective view uponan enlarged scale of my drawer stabilizer, showing the parts in their closed position.
Fig. 3, is a front elevation of a modified form of my drawer stabilizer.
Fig. 4:, is'a perspective view "of another modification.
The'drawer stabilizer embodying my invention may be used in connection with the ordlnary drawer guide A, and comprlses a channel strlp B and a guide rail D. Ordinarily the channel strip B issecured to the side wall E of a cabinet and the guide rail D is secured to the side walls of a drawer G.
However, this may be reversed and the guide rail D may be secured to the wall of the side walls E ofthe cabinet. At their'inner ends'walls b, b have inwardly projecting beads 6 6 which increase in size from the front to the rear of the'cabinet, so that'between the inner edges of the beads there is formed an inwardly converging way. The
inner ends of the beads b b terminatein inclined walls b b Walls 7), bT are of I the walls of the casing, after the walls at" gradually diminishing widthfromthe front 7 V VI cut portions d (V to the rear of the cabinet. Guiderail D has under which form the seats-for the beads If, 115$ ma a S ept. 14.
These under cut portions are V shaped in cross section, the walls of the V gradually increasing in width fromthe front to -;the rear of the guide rail, as shown in Fig.- 2.
The V shaped or undercut portions of the rail, terminate in inwardly projecting in-- clined SlClBS 6Z2, (Z which decrease in width from the front to the rear of the rail so that the walls 5 b with the inner walls of the V shaped portions cl, d, form an under cut head upon the rail,.which tapers from the front to the rear. The rail has'at its innerends vertical flanges d d which are screwed tothe walls G of the drawer.) In
the modification shown in Fig.w 4, the. webs i 7 d d are formed in alinement with the inner walls of the Vshaped portions'al, d. a In use the taperedhead of therail engages the tapered groove formed by the in-; wardly projecting beads of the channel, a which likewise tapers from the front to the rear, and therefore gradually guide the drawer to an accurate position as it is closed. When the draweris closed 'the beads upon the channel strip become firmly locked'inthe under cut portions of the guide rail and 7 therefore oppose any lateral movement between the drawer and the sides ofthe cabinet, Because of the under out portions of the rail and the beads on the channel strip being tapered gradually from the front to the rear, the tapered portion and the beads will contact only when the drawer is inga" closed position. cabinet and the channel strip B be-secured W hile I have their casings. 7
What I claimis e '1. In a drawer stabilizerthe combination with a cabinet wall and a drawer, of a chanhaving formed in it alongitudinal dove- 1 nel strip mounted uponthe cabinet wall and V 1'00 tailed groove, and a guide railmounted on" Y the drawer and having formed upon it a head with under-cut sidesand adapted to Y fit the dove-tailed groove of the channel strip inthe closed position only of the drawer. 2. In a drawer t'abilizr the combination with a cabinetwal'l and a drawer, of a channel strip mounted upon the cabinet wall and having formed in it longitudinal-dovetailed groove tapering towardthe rear, and a rail mounted on the drawer and havingg; formed upon it a head with under-cut sides tapering toward the rear and adapted to fit the dove-tailed groove of the channel strip when in a closed position and to secure the drawer 10 5 WILLIAM F.
