I To all whom it may concern:
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
FRANK'E. FITZGERALD, 0F WATEBT OWN, NEW YORK.
recesses-sorrow.
Application filed July 24, 1919. Serial No. 313,051.
Be it known that I, FRANK E. FITZGERALD, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Watertown, in the county ofJeiferson and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousersn Supports, of which the following is a specification. i
This lnyention relates to improvements in trouser'supports, and has for its object to eliminate the usual belts which entirely enleather or other flexible strap which extends from the hip seam at one side across circle the body of the wearer, as well as the suspenders so commonly worn for support-- ing trousers. A further object is to provide a trousers-support, which consists of a the back to the other hip seam leaving the front of the trousers clear and free, and thus obviating the necessity of buckling and unbuckling the belt in order to apply and remove the trousers. And a further object is to provide novel and simple means for adjusting the support and-for effecting the r proper tension for holding the trousers in place. I
I. attain these objects by the means set forth in the detailed description which follows, and illustrated by the accompanying- I drawing, in which Figure l is a top-plan view of a pair of trousers, to which my improved support is applied.
Fig' 2 is an enlargedbroken right side elevation; showing the adjustable parts of the device.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged edge view of the combined buckle and key-ring support.
Fig. 4: is atop-plan view of the parts shown,in Fig. 2.
In the drawing, 2 represents the top or waist-band of a pair of trousers, the front of which is split and overlapped in the usual manner at 3. 4 is the right hip seam, and 5 is the left hip seam, the said seams divide the trousers into front quarters or portions 6-6, and rear quarters or portions 77'. a
My improved support consists of the following parts: 8 and 8 are similar right selves and detachably secured to the front portions 6-6, by snap-buttons 10, whose shanks 10 pierce the straps 9 and the trouser band 2 in the usual manner, as best seen in Figs'l and 4:. The loops 8 and 8 are preferably disposed an inch or two forwardly of the right and left hip scams 4: and 5. The support proper consists. of two leather or other suitable flexible straps 11 and 12, thickness of the ordinary belts. The strap 11 is preferably long enough to extend from the right to the'left hip seams, and 'is held in place against the rear portion of the band 2 by loops 13, which are usually placed on all trousers' One end of the strap 11 is passed loosely through the ring 8, and then folded rearwardly between the band 2 and Patented July 6,1920.
preferably about the breadth and the body of the strap, and this end is de tachably secured to. the band 2 an inch or tworearwardly of the left hi seam 5, by a snap orv other button 14. he opposite end ofithe strap 11 is fitted with a buckle 15, which is positioned near-the right hip scam, the said buckle referably. having an lntegral'depending spring book 15 for supporting a key-ring (not shown) as'best seen' in Figs. 2 and 3. The strap 12 is relatively short and one end thereof is loosely passed through the ring 8 and is then bent rearwardly between the band 2 and the body of the strap, and is secured to the band 2 by a similar button 16. The opposite end.
portion of the strap 12 is perforated at frequent intervals to receive the tongue 15 of the. buckle, and by means of which the Y straps 11 and 12 are adjusted for properly holding the trousers in place. of the snap buttons 10, 14 and 16 the sup- By the use' port may be applied to or removed from a pair of trousers in a few minutes, and the disposition and arrangement of the support is such that substantially the entire front portions between the fasteners 10 are clear,
and the trousers may be applied and removed at will without disturbing or requirthere is no discomfort felt by the wearer; And furthermore, the band 2 of the trousers and the loop 8, the front and rear portions 66 and 77 are drawn toward the right and left hip seams 4 and 5, as indicated by the small arrows in Figs. 1 and 4:. By th1s construction and arrangement of the support, the tension is distributed equally to all of the four quarters of the trousers, and
is drawn and held smoothly against the waist of,the wearer and does not wrinkle or I buckle, as in the cases where thecommon belts are employed, because in the latter, the tension is entirely on the belt which sinks into the soft parts of the body, and correspondingly bulges the trousers above and below the belts.
Trousers equipped with my improved support will hang evenly and gracefully, and when properly adjusted require no handling or attention, unless the girth of the v wearer changes. a
Having thus described my invention, ,what I claim is V In a support, the combination with a pair of trousers having a band and having right and left hip seams, of rings detachably mounted on said band forwardly of said hip seams, a flexible strap having a buckle at one end disposed near the right hip seam, the opposite end loosely engaging the ring at the left side and folded upon itself and secured to the trousers rearwardly of theleft hip seam, a second strap loosely engaging the ring'at the rightside and folded uponitself and secured to the trousers rearwardly of the adjacent seam, the free end of the secondstrap being perforated and inserted through the buckle adapted to draw the four quarters of the trousers toward the corresponding hip seams.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
FRANK E. FITZGERALD.
