onrlon-iinnenn.
Specification of'Letters Patent. Patented June15,1920.
Appl ication fi ii Jul 1 1919. Serial No. 310,222.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAooeUsFRANoIsoUs GnRAnnUs JoNeErInR, merchant, a subject of the Queen of" the"Netherlands', residing at Schiedam, the Netherlands, 43 Lange' Haven, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oflice-Ledgers, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention comprehends generally improvements in office ledgers and more particularly relates to coactive Column indicating strips designed to be attached and used in connection with office ledgers In previous types of inventions of the above character certain drawbacks have been observed, namely, in those strips that are designed to be folded inside of the book, after a repeated use of the strip the same wears rapidly and is very apt to break at the folding line. Moreover, in the use of these strips which have been provided with heading columns, especially in their use in thick books the column lining of the pages soon ceases to correspond to the corresponding division on the strip.
t is therefore the primary aim and ohi ject of this invention to provide a device of the above character designed principally to obviate the drawbacks referred to and the invention may be said to briefly consist of coaoting strips one of which is swingably connected to the back of the strip so as to be foldably arranged inside of, the stri when not in use or else may be extended or positioned above the upper edges of the leaves of the book so as to slidabl receive the other strip which is divi ed into columns or divisions and provided with indicia for alining with and indicating the the claims, forming apart or this specification.
The invention is clearlylillustrated in the I accompanying drawings wherein the figure is a perspective view of a portion of a ledger showing the device attached thereto,
the slidable strip being arranged or positioned to the right so as to compensate for the change of position of the column on the leaves of the office ledger, due to the thickness of the ledger,
Referring now, more particularly, to the accompanying drawings there is provided an oflice ledger A with which is associated the improved column indicating device generally designated by the letter B.
In reducing the present invention to practice the same may be said to consist of a main strip 1 which is swingably connected to the upper edge of the back of the ledger in such manner so that it can be folded or arranged to lie against the inside of the back or cover when not in use. The upper and lower or longitudinal marginal portions of the strip are folded inwardly upon themselves to provide opposed flan e guides 2 for facilitating the retention 0 another strip 3 which is slidably mounted on the strip 1. As intimated the slidable or adjustable strip 3 is provided with suitable indicia preferably being divided into columns which are designed to correspond to the columns on the leaves or pages of the ledger A, each column for instance being in addition provided with the following which read from left to right Number, Name, Residence, Premium and Date.
In use, assuming that the parts have been assembled in the manner described and shown the strip 1 is swung outwardl so as to be arranged above the upper e ges of the leaves whereupon the strip 3 is arranged in alinement, or rather its columns are arranged in alinement with the column of the leaves of the ledger and as the leaves are turned from right to left the thickness of left part of the book naturally increases and owing to the peculiar arrangement of the leaves, such as indicated, it is necessary to slide the strip 3'slightly to the ri ht so that its columns will'aline with the co umns on the leaves. f
It is believed that in view of the foregoing description a further detailed description of the operation of the invention is entirely unnecessary. Likewise it-iisbelieyed that the advantages of the invention will be readily apparent.
Ha vin-githus fully described Ether. invention 1 what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. An indicator for ofilce ledgers including a strip; adapted toibe swingablyrseeuredi to the back of the ledger so as to be swung inside of the ledger when-notin use or else swung outwardly and arranged above the upper-edge of'the ledger, and'another strip slidablylmounted on the swin-gable strip and provided with ind'icia indicative of and ledger-land :being movable inside of rtheicoverl and in addition thereto being slidable transversely with respect" to the leaves of the ledger.
In. testimony whereof I afiixl my signature.
