DEVICE FOR ATTAGHING NIPPLES, CAPS, AND THE LIKE 0N CONTAINERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
, Patented Oct. 21, 1919.
'Application filed Apri1 22, 1919. Serial No. 291,876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WALTER 'P. LIMAQHER,
I a citizen of the United States, residing at Pasadena, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Devices for Attache ing Nipples, Caps and the like on Containers, of which the following is a specification.
My object is to make a device for attaching soft nipples, caps and the like to con- 1351111618,- and my invention consists of the novel features herein shown, described and,
claimed. a
Figure 1 is a perspective illustrating the operation of applying a nursing nip le to a bottle with an attaching device em odying the principles of my invention.
ig. 2'is a View analogous to Fig. 1 and showing the nipple applied to the attaching dlevice ready t0.be removed from the bott e.
Fig. 3 is a vertical diametrical detail showin the operation of applying the nipple to t e bottle.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the attachingflevice. 7
1g. 5 is atop lan View of the attaching device as seen loo ing in the direction indicated by the arrow 5 in Fig. 4.
Referring to Figs. 4 and 5, the details of the attaching device are as follows:
The flat annular band 1 has a central bead 2 for stiffening the band and forming a handheld, and the band is large'enough to.
pass freely over the head of the bottle. Spring fingers 3 extend from one edge of the band 1, said fingers being equally spaced apart all the way around the band, and 40 said fingers being of considerable length, and the free ends 4 of the fingers being sli htly bent outwardly.
he milk bottle 5 is preferably a straight bottle having a bead 6 around its head. The nursing nipple 7 is bell shaped and has an inwardly extending bead 8 around its lower edge. The nipple is made of soft rubber sectional.
and is normally smaller than the head of the bottle. The attaching device is insert- 8 and make; a slightly hooked connection, then continued downward movement of the device will pull the bead 8 over the bead 6, as shown in Fig. 3 and finally as shown in Fig. 2, and then the device will pass downwardly and the fingers will pull out of the head 8 and the nipple is applied to the bottle and the attaching device may be removed by lifting the bottle upwardly. A rubbercap or closure may be applied in the same way. g
Various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention as claimed.-
I claim:
1. The combination with a milk bottle havin a large open end and a nursing nipple a apted to fit the large open end, of an annular band adapted tofit loosely around the bottle and having an outwardly extending bead forming a handhold, and spring fingers extending from the annular band and adapted to engage the head ofthe milk bottle and to fit inside of'the nursing nipple and pull the rim of the nipple over the'head
