IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM WATER-ELEVATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 129,977, dated July 30, 1872.
Specification describing a certain Improved i Steam-Pump, invented by JAMES T. MILLI- GAN, of Du Quoin, in thc county of Perry and State of Illinois.
This invention relates to the class of steampumps known as Siphon-pumps. My, invention consists in certain improvements in steampumps, hereinafter more fully set forth.
The drawing shows my improvement in axial section through the steam-chamber and jet, with parts above in elevation.
A isthe suction-pipe, having a tapering throat, B, and a nozzle, G, of cylindrical form, upon theiinside, and the end portion c, of tapering form, upon the outside. D is the steampipe communicating with the steam-chamber E that surrounds the nozzle. F is a pipe, screw-threaded at both ends, and screwing into the steam-chamber and the discharge-pipe G. The lower end of the pipe F (which screws into the steam-chamber) has a mouth, H, liaring upon the inside, having a similar upward taper to the end `c of the nozzle, so that, as
. the pipe F is screwed inward and outward in the steam-chamber, the annular jet-passageI will be reduced or enlarged. K is a polygonal steam-chamber and discharge-pipe. c and h are valve-seats of the nozzle c and adjustingpipe F, respectively, by which the steam-jet may be closed when desired.
The operation is as follows: The steam passes through the steam-pipe D into the valve-chamber E, and through the annular i with a bore corresponding in diameter with the bore of the contracted part of the suction-pipe, said parts being arranged to operate in the manner herein set forth.
