In the conventional menses a-htill-Qw cylinder is mounted onashaftpassiiigf'through its geometrical center; the handle is rotatively secured to the shaft? The convex"- lateral surface is perforated, so that wnen the cylinder is filled with a coloring powder (usually pulverized lime) and rolled along the ground or earth, the powder is precipi tated on to the ground, thereby forming a streak over the cylinder path. It is desirable to have a clearly defined line of the width of the convex lateral cylinder surface, but owing to the fact that the powder is always sifting through at least one half of the cylinder, the powder has quite a distance to fall 2'. e., the diameter of the cylinder. The cylinder must be made reasonably large to be the container for a considerable amount of the powder to prevent frequent refillings. The minimum reasonable diameters of such cylinders approximates one foot. The powder being fine spreads and forms a streak instead of the required line.

16. The washers 17 are then placed on the bolt 12 and then the prongs 18 are rotatively secured to the bolt 12 exteriorly to the washer 17. The pins 19 piercing the bolt 12 near its extremities prevents the prongs from disengaging the bolt 12. The prongs 18 are firmly secured to the handle 20 by means of the bolts and nuts 21. The guard 16 is inclosed front and rear as shown by the overturned edges 22 in Fig. 1 of the inclosing element. The guard 16 is fastened to the bolt 12 by means of the slot 23. The cover 26 for this opening 25 consists of a scoop as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, with the lid portion 27 and the knob 28. The hole 25 has two notches 29 formed in its side for the reception of the two hooks 30. By inserting the cover26 into the opening 25 so that the hooks 30 will register with the notches 29 and then pushing the cover 26 inwardly, the hooks 30 will be positioned under the edges lof the opening 25. By turning the cover 26, the hooks 30 will be placed under the edges 31 and hence the cover 26 will be firmly but detachably se-' cured in the opening-25. This cover and scoop is simple and performs the dual function of a scoop for the powder and a cover for the opening into the magazine. Owing to its structure it cannot become inoperative on account of dirt, etc., as is the case with all the conventional covers now on the market. follows. 7

What I have illustrated and described and mean to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination with a hollow cylindrihaving perforations posed of two trapezoidal shaped members spaced apart bysupports and having curved ends, for confining the powder within selectable limits, and a shaft, said magazine shaft, said magazine positioned within said guard.
2. In combination with a hollow cylinder having perforations on its lateral convex surface, and means for entrance to said cylinder on its side, a combination scoop, disintegrator and cover for said entrance means, consisting of a cylinder portion with the one extremity sealed by a disk and means for selectively securing said scoop to said means for entrance to said cylinder so that the cylinder portion of said scoop when in position will protrude in said hollow. cylinder, a guard enveloping the lower half of said cylinder, with a corrugation formed longitudinally near, its lower extremity and its front and rear-portions curved, a shaft and a handle, said cylinder, said guard, and said handle secured to said shaft and means for moving said guard vertically relative to said cylinder, substantially for the purposes described.
