MACHINE-BELT BUCKLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 30, 1916. Serial No. 117,761.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHAnnus H. Bun'r'r- Nnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Machine-Belt Buckles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to machine belt buckles, particularly buckles for automobile fan belts.
It is frequently necessary, where endless belts cannot be employed, to provide means on the ends of a belt whereby the same may be joined. In such buckles as have heretofore been provided, great accuracy in securing the parts of the buckle to the ends of the belt is required, in order that perfect alinement of the ends of the belt when assembled, may be seoured. Even where such accuracy in placing the buckle parts upon the ends of the belt is attained, slightly faulty construction in the buckle may cause the belt ends to be out of alinement. If not in perfect alinement, the belt will not of course remain upon the pulley on which it is intended to operate.
The object of said invention is to provide a belt buckle of simple and inexpensive de sign, and of such construction that when the two parts of the buckle are placed upon the ends of the belt and joined together, the ends of said belt will be automatically brought into perfect alinement.
In the several figures of the drawings, like numerals indicate like parts.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan of my new buckle.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same secured to the ends of a belt.
Fig. 3 is a plan of one of the parts of said buckle.
The numerals 1 and 2 indicate the two leaves or parts of my new buckle. The same are constructed of thin metal and are provided with perforations 3 through Whichrivets l pass to attach the buckle parts to the ends 5 of a machine belt. The part 1 of said buckle is provided with a curved opening 6, the forward end of which opening forms a hump 7. Integrally formed with the part 2 of the buckle is a hook 8. The said hook 8 is of substantially the same width as the opening 6 and is arranged to contact tangentially when the buckle parts are assembled upon the hump 7 of said opening and to rock thereon.
The nature and operation of my invention will be apparent from the foregoing description to those skilled in the art. When the parts 1 and 2 of the buckle have been secured to the belt ends and the hook 8 secured in the opening 6, the ends of the belt are brought into perfect alinement by the rocking of the hook 8 upon the hump 7 of the buckle part 1 as above set forth.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A buckle for machine belts comprising two leaves, one of said leaves being provided with an opening and a hump in said opening, a hook on the other leaf, said hook being adapted to contact tangentially upon said hump and to rock laterally thereon, substantially as and for the purpose described.
CHARLES H. BUETTNER.
