Description

C. G. MILLER.
SIGNAL APPARATUS.
APPLICATION FILED AUG.8. I916.
. Patented Oct. 23, 1917.
CLIFFORD GUNTHER MILLER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SIGNAL APPARATUS.
\ Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 23, 1917.
Application filed August 8, 1916. Serial No. 113,770.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLIFFORD G. MILLER, a citizen of. the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and 3 State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Signal Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in signal apparatus, and more particularly to such as is especially adapted for use for drivers of automobiles and other vehicles. The object in view is the provision of means for enabling the driver to readily and effectively indicate to observers, and particularly to drivers in the rear, his proposed course of action.
With this and other detail objects in view, the invention comprises certain novel features of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be subsequently specified and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure 1 is a plan view of a casing or frame embodying the features of the pres: ent invention.
Fig.2 is a similar view taken from the opposite side of the same casing or frame.
Fig. 3 is an edge view thereof.
Fig. 4L is a cross section taken on the plane.
of the signal apparatus, as will subsequently.
become more apparent.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, 1 indicates any ordinary glove, or other appropriate casing or frame, to which is connected the gauntlet 2, which, in fact, for
the purposes of the present invention, forms merely a continuation of the casing or frame and may, therefore, be taken as a part of the frame 1.
Stamped on or affixed tothe frame 1 is an arrow'3, or other appropriate legend, pointing outwardlv along the frame, and at'the or other appropriate legend, 4 is arranged opposite side of the frame a similar arrow,-
pointing in the opposite direction. One
edge of the frame 1 with its extension 2 is of Such legend, and that Word is stamped or aflixed by appropriate lettering on a plate 5 which forms a part of the edge of the frame 1. The method of attachment of -When theframe 1 is placed on the arm of the operator, it is adjusted to such a position that when his arm is extended with his palm downward the legend stop will be exposed to the rear, and the two other legends 3 and '4; will be concealed fromthe eves of persons approaching from the rear. When-the operator is about to turn his vehicle to the left, he will extend his arm with his palm facing forward so that the constructed appropriately for that purpose.
What I claim is 1. In a signal apparatus the combination, with a covering adapted to fit over the hand of a vehicle driver, of indicating means carried on the covering of a character to indicate various future courses of the vehicle, the covering being adapted to be adjusted by the movement of the hand into various positions to display said means for indicating the future courses of the vehicle one at a time, as desired.
2. In signal apparatus, the combination, with a covering adapted to be sustained by the arm of' a vehicle driver, of legends carmama ried by said covering of a character to indicate the, proposed future course of the vehicle when displayed, the said legends being arranged relative to each other so as to be adapted to be exposed one at a time only by the movement of the arm.
3. In signal apparatus, the combination, with a covering adapted to fit over the arm of a vehicle driver, of a legend at one side of the covering, a legend at the opposite side of the covering, one of the legends being adapted to indicate a future direction of movement curving to the right, and the other a future direction of movement curving to the left, said covering being adapted for adjustment by the twisting of the arm to display said legends one at a time to the rear of a vehicle.
4:. In signal apparatus, the combination, with a glove adapted to be fitted over the hand of a vehicle drivenot a legend at one side of the glove, a legend at the opposite side of the glove, and a legend along the edge of the glove, the legends at the sides of the glove'being disposed to indicate future movements of the vehicle, respectively, to the right and to the left of its course at the time of displaying the respective legend, and the legend at the edge of the glove be-. ing of a character adapted to indicate that the vehicle is about to stop, said glove being adapted to be moved by the twisting of the hand to display said legends one at a time.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
CLIFFORD GUNTHER MILLER.
