- C. A. SHERWOOD.
HAIR CRLMPING DEVICE. APPLICATION FILED OCT. 21, 1916,
Pagented July 31, 1917.
CATHERINE A. SHERWOOD, OF LAKE VILLA, ILLINOIS.
HAIR-CRIMPING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 31, 1917.
Application filed'october 21, 1916. Serial No. 126,936.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, CAT ERINE A. SHER- WOOD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lake Villa, in the county of Lake and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Crimping Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in hair crimping devices and consists of a means whereby hair may be crimped without the use of heated irons or dampening the hair.
The invention consists of a simple and efficient device of this nature on the order of a circular comb with elongated corrugated teeth, adapted to engage the hair and held by cross wires engaging the corrugations.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the comb with corrugated fingers.
Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the means for engagement with the corrugations to crimp the hair.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a circular comb having series of short teeth B opposite each other and designed to engage the hair of a person over the temple, and C which are adapted to engage the hair in a manner similar to the teeth of a circular comb. A member D is provided with a series of straight parallel wires E and which latter are designed to engage the corrugations in the manner shown in Fig.- 1 of the drawings, the ends of the member D. being provided with fastening means whereby said member may be held under the chin of the person on whose head the device is applied.
When the hair is sufliciently crimped and given the wavy eflect desired, the device is removed from the head.
By adjusting the crimping device in the manner shown, I have found that the hair may be crimped and given a wavy effect without the use of a heated iron or moistening the hair.
What I claim to be new is j A device for crimping hair comprising a bowed wire having integral teeth projecting therefrom near the ends of the wire and corrugated wires projecting at substantially right angles to the plane of the bowed wires and parallel to one another, a separate member made up of bowed wires with their ends connected together, means attached thereto adapted to pass under the chin of a person and serving to hold the wires of said member in said corrugations, portions of the bowed wires of said member designed to engage the hair at the rear of said teeth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CATHERINE A. SHERWOOD.
