To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that we, Lnwrs A. CARPENTER and RICHARD MIDDLETON, citizens of the United States and residing in Revere, in the county of Suflolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Sprinkling Devices, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a. specification, like characters on the drawings representing like parts.

This invention relates to a sprinkling device for clothes and is an improvement upon the device shown and described in U. S. Patent No. 998232 granted to us July 18, 1911.

The invention has for its object to provide a superior device, which is more attractive in appearance and can be used with a cork sleeve without danger of rotary or longitudinal movement of the cork independently of the device as will be described.

The particular features of the invention will be pointed out in the claim at the end of this specification.

Referring to the drawing a represents a hollow metal head composed of two parts or members 10, 12, secured liquid tight at their circumferential edges by a. flange or lip 13 on the upper member 10 embracing the lower member 12.

The upper member 10 is provided with a plurality of fine openings 14:, and the lower member 12 is provided with a substantially large central opening through which a metal tube 6 is passed and secured thereto by a flange 16 within the member 12 being eX- panded against the inner surface of said member, to force the latter against a shoulder 17 formed in the tube by contracting the 2 end which extends into the member 12.

The tube 6 is of material length and has its lower end extended through a sleeve 0 of cork or other resilient material, which is secured on the tube 6 against longitudinal movement thereon by a metal collar 20, preferably convexed and bearing against the under side of an annular head 21 on the tube 72, and by an outwardly extended flange 22 on the lower end of the said tube.

Provision is also made for preventing rotation of the cork around the metal tube or turning of the latter within the cork, which is accomplished as shown by a plurality of prongs 24:, which are formed by making 13- shaped cuts in the metal tube and bending the pointed ends of the out portions outwardly, so that when the cork is slipped onto the tube the prongs will be embedded in the cork and thus fasten the cork against rotary movement on the tube and vice versa.

The head 21 and metal collar 20 serve to impart an attractive and pleasing appearance to the tube besides serving to prevent movement of the cork toward the head a.

The device is designed to be used with a bottle 25, into whose neck the cork sleeve 0 is inserted liquid tight, and by inverting the bottle and shaking it the water is projected through the openings 14; and is sprinkled upon the clothes.

Claim:

In a device of the character described, a head composed of an upper member having a plurality of perforations, a lower member secured liquid-tight to said upper member,

a tube extended from said lower member and provided at its lower end with an outwardly extended flange and between its ends with an outwardly extended bead and between said bead and flange with pointed out portions which are bent outwardly, a collar on said tube engaging said bead on its underside, and a sleeve of resilient material on said tube and confined against longitudinal movement thereon by said flange and said collar and bead and against rotary movement by said outwardly extending cut portions which penetrate into said sleeve.
