soN, e citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Springfield, in the county ci Brown and State of Minnesota, have invented certain ne'w and useful Improvement-s in Coin and Pen Holders, ofv which the following is a specication.
The present invention relates to erticle holders and has particular reference to new and useful improvements in coin and pencil holding devices, the device having es its primary ob'ect the provision of a coin and pencil hol er which is readily adaptable for application to a book or the like to receive pencils, pens, coins and the like and retain the same agciinslI loss'.
Another object of my invention is to provide a 'device of the-character lreferred to which is simple in construction, strong ond durable, eiiective in operation and cheep io manufacture.
A. further object of my invention is to provide a oin and pencil holder of che class described combined in e novel manner for retaining pencils, pens, coins and 'the like articles to prevent loss of the seme, the holding devices being arranged Within e suitable receptacle, which latter is adapted -io be attached to a book or the like ordinarily carried by students and others in order that the` device will not consume more space than is necessary.
@ther objects and advsnieges to loe de rived from the use of my improved coinl and pen holder will appear from thev following detailed description and. she claims,
taken with en inspection of the eccompany-- l in drawing, 1n which:
igure 1 1s e perspective view of a coin and pencil holder embodying the improvements of my invention; and
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the saine on liner2-2 of l with the'pen and pencil removed.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, wherein similar characters of reference designate like and corresponding paris throughout the various views, A designates in its entirety the container for the holding device, said container having n bottoni l and side `and end walls 2 and 3, respectively. The receptacle A. is provided with alid 4 hingedly connected at 5 to one of the side Wells 2. A spring catch 6 is carried by the' lid for an obvious purposes.
A. clamp for eilsnehing the receptacle AV iov en object is provided composedy ofthe sections c and c', said Vsections being U-- shaped in cron section and arranged 1n.tel.
escopic relacion. rl`he section c is formed with anges 'i' and 8 io receive the spaced portion 9 of the section o'. The bottom 1 of the recepzecle A is connected with the section c by ineens of rivets 10 or `the like.
The pencil end coin reteining elerneniI of my invention is preferably formed of asin gie strand o Wire provided 'with :i coiledy portion 1l arranged transverse of the receptecla A, the free endl l2 of the coil lllying upon the hotiom o vile container and coiled as at 13 to rovide coin holders. The convolutions o ihe'pencil holding coil l1 orel prefer'ehly rectengular in cross section so as to more irnily retain the objects inserted hereinto.
ln.- nse pencils, pens and the like are to be inserted between the convolutions of the' spring il, said pencils ano the like being 'l retained therein by -viorinie of the resiliency of the spring. The portion 12 of the strand of wire from which thesprings 1l und 1.3A
are formed are aibiiched to the base or side walls of ehe receptacle by soldering or the like.
'it is preferable the?. the clam be applied to the back or e book, said boo lo'eing designated 2i end shown in l. Coins are insereed beneoih ehe spring 13 es best shown in igll, said vspring serving to prevent displacement of the com and yet permittin ready removei of the same. Thiis it wil be eeen that in the provision 'of my :un roved i pencil, pen and coin holder' have a Orded a compact sind effec'iive device for carrying objecis which may be associated with the usual students outfit without inconvenience.
The inner surface of the top is nickeled .orA
the like to form e mirror.
From the above description teken inconnection with the accompanying drawing, it
do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to se cure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a container, means to connect said container with a supporting object, an object retaining device arranged -within the container, said retaining device comprising a main coil spring portion, formed from a strand of w1re having the free ends thereof secured to the eontainen.
said free ends being provided with coils arranged adjacent one end of the container remote from said main coil, and a closure for the container.
2. In a device as specified, the combination with a housing, of an object retaining member therein formed of a strand of wire provided with a main coiled portion arranged transversely of the housing, the free ends of the strands being provided with coils to retain objects.
In testimony whereof, I aix my signature hereto.
JENNIE J. FREDERICKSON.
