RAZOR-RECEPTACLE.

present 1nvention has in v1ew are: to provide a receptacle for storing and carrying razors when not in use; .to provide a temporary cover operable by contact with the razor when said razor is lifted or removed from the receptacle; to provide a service cover adapted to limit or prevent the splashing of the contents from the receptacle to which the cover is applied; and to provide a temporary or traveling cover for concealing the receptacle to prevent the release of liquid carried thereby.

Drawings.-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a receptacle constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention, the receptacle being shown in the position assumed for the removal or introduction of the razor; Fig. 2 is a vertical seotion, on an enlarged scale, of the receptacle, the same being shown in service position Awith a razor disposed therein; Fig. 3 is a similar view, the cover being shown in full lines in an intermediate position, and in dotted lines as in the open position; Fig. 4 is a similar view, showing the receptacle as covered and in position for transportation.

Description-The herein-described receptacle is employed principally as a holder for shaving razors using what are conventionally known as wafer blades. One popular form of razor is shown in the drawings. These wafer blades are objectionable in that they are diicult to clean, the usual handling being injurious to the blade and dangerous to the operator. `To overcome this objection the p-resent holder is provided to hold a charge of suitable cleaning or preserving liquid. I nd that an aqueous solution of certain alkalies, such as sodium carbonate, preserves and operates to clean said blades when immersed or left therein. In adopting this method of preserving the blades, I rovide a receptacle 9 having a well 10, into which is poured a solution 11 of the character above-mentioned.

To preserve the solution from deterioration, there is provided a cover 12, which rests upon the surrounding edge of the well 10, as est seen 1n Fig. 2 of the drawings.

.The cover 12 has a passage 13 formed therein adjacent the front edge thereof, said passage opening outward through the edge of the cover 12 to receive and hold the handle 14 of a razor of the style above mentioned. To guide the handle 14 to the passage 13 the cover 12 1s flared at the entrance to said opening to form inclined ide surfaces 15.

To rock the cover 12 to t e position shown by dotted hnes in Fig. 3 of the drawings, for the withdrawal of the head 16 of the razor,

pivot pintles 17 are extended from the sidel of the apron 18 at the oint of juncture thereof with the overhanging wall 19. The plntles 17 normally rest and have bearings 1n the .lower ends of slots 20 vertically formed 1n the sides of the receptacle 9. The slots 20 are open at the upper end to provide easy access thereto of the pintles 17. The length of the slots 20 is such that when the cover 12 is in the position shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the pintles are disposed slightly above the lower ends of said slots. In th1s manner the bearing of the cover 12 on the upper edge of the well 10 is insured. When, however, the cover 12 is moved into eitherl of the positions shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the pintles 17 rest in the lower ends of the slots20 to support the cover and parts connected therewith. when swinging back to the position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings and subsequently when swinging forward to the closed position.

It will be noted that the pintles 17 are disposed'at one side of the center of gravity of the .combined structure of the cover 12,

apron 18 and wall 19, whenfin service position shown in Figs. 2 and 4 of the drawings. The center of gravity of said st ructure is, however, moved back of the pintles when said structure is moved to the position indicated vby dotted lines in Fig. 3 of the drawings. It will be noted, however, that in the open position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the apron 18 is advanced into the path of, to be engaged by, the head 16 of the razor when said razor is replaced in the well 10 of the receptacle 9.

To hold the cover 12 in position and to prevent the loss of the solution 11 a cap cover 21 is provided. To form a seal for the cover 21 the body of the receptacle 9 is provided with an annular extension 22, the

outer surface of which is shaped to form. a screw-thread. The upper edge of the extension 22 forms a seat forA a packing or gasket 23, with which the cover 21 is furnished. The gasket 23 is held within the top convolution of the threaded neck 24 with which the cover 21 is provided.

The cover 21 is usually disposed in service as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawin s, where the threaded neck 24 engages t e threads of the extension 22 to force the gasket 23 on said extension and thereby' seal the union between. said extension and the cover 21. The solution 11 may pass out of the well 10 into the cover 21 during transportation, such as when the article is being carried in a hand or other package. In this position the cover 12 is prevented from being tilted backward by the fact that the outer edge of said cover is juxtaposed to or engaged by the inner wall of the cover 21, as seen best in Fig. 4 of the drawings.

Having unpacked the receptacle, the cover 21 is removed, and, if desired, is disposed on the receptacle in the position shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, where the body of the receptacle is shown as incased in the cover' 21.

It will loe understood that the article hereinbeore described is a receptacle or repository only, for a razor or shaving tool and is not intended for use as a shaving cup.

Any liquid which may remain in the cover 21 will iine lodgment on the extension 22. It is to drain this liquid that I provide the inclined drainage holes 25.

Claims:

1. A receptacle as characterized, comprising a body portion having an u wardlyopening well; a cover for said we having an apron suspended from and connected by an inclined wall, with said cover2 said cover having an edge opening to receive a razor handle; andvmeans for pivotally mounting said cover and said apron on said body to extend said apron into the path of said razor, or engaging said razor when same insegne is placed' in said wellpto move said cover` A at the rear thereof with upwardly-openingv slots;v a cover for said Well having an in clined wall to normally rest within said well, said wall being connected with said cover at the forward edge thereof and rearwardly declined therefrom; and pivots mounted upon said inclined wall for engaging said slots to support said cover and wall therein.

3., A receptacle as characterized, comprising a body portion having a top-opening well, the sides of said Well being provided at the rear thereof with upwardly-opening slots; a cover for said Well having an inclined wall to normally rest within said well, said wall being connected with said cover at the' forward edge thereof and :rearwardly declined therefrom; pivots mounted upon said inclined wall for engaging said slots and to support said cover and wall therein; and an apron rigidly connected with. said inclined wall at the end thereof, said apron being arranged to normally assume a vertical position in said receptacle when said cover 1s closed thereover, and to extend across said well when said cover is moved to expose said Well.

4. A razor receptacle having an open top well and a pivoted tiltable cover therefor which is provided with a lateral opening for receptionof a razor handle, and with a lateral apron or projection at the bottom for contact with the razor when placed in the Well, as described.
