- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 27, 1916.
I Application filed November 2, 1915. Serial No. 59,208.
lowing is a specification.
. The present invention relates to a bath-tub seat and is designed for partitioning off a bath-tub whereby the same may be adapted for use as a foot-bath, or for a sitz bath,
or for bathing children, the purpose belng to provide a dam or partition in connection with an attached seat portion which may be set at any desired position longitudinally of the tub, the said dam or partition being provided with yieldable bottom and side edges which will insure a close joint between the dam or partition and the inner bottom and sides of the bath-tub when the seat is 00- cupied. I
I shall now describe my invention so that others skilled in the art may manufacture and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my im proved bath-tub seat; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the ordinary'form of bathtub, showing the seat therein in cross-section; "Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the tub showing the seat in front elevation; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view showing a modified form of yieldable edge for the dam or par tition.-
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in each.
The reference numeral 1 indicates a bathtub of the conventional form, and 2 designates my improved bath-tub seat as an en tirety. The said seat comprises a dam or partition 3, a horizontal seat portion 4 attached to the dam 3, and legs 5 for supporting the seat at the side opposite the dam. The dam 3 is of such size and shape as to fit within the tub I and to conform to the inner outline thereof and to cause its lower and side edges to engage with the bottom and sides of the tub. A yieldable edge 6 is fitted and suitably attached to the bottom and sides of the dam 3 and insures a close fit with the corresponding portions of the tub to prevent the escape or passage -of water from one side-of the dam to the other. The yieldable edge 6-is preferably a rubber or other pneumatic flexible tube, sufficiently yieldable, under the weight of the occupant of the seat, to conform to the shape of the inner surface of the tub and to insure a close and. substantiallywater-tight fit, but it will be understood that the yieldable edge may be formed of other suitable material, such as ordinary cloth or felt, or asbestos cloth or felt, and such construction is intended to be represented in Fig. 4, where the edge 6' is made of felt 0r layers of cloth, and connected to the edges of the dam or partition 3 in any desired manner.
The device may be made of wood or metal or other suitable material. Or the dam may be made of wood and the seat portion and legs of metal, or vice versa, as may be deemed preferable.
The advantages of improved bath-tub seat will be readily apparent. When it is desired to partition oif the bath-tub so as to make a pool of the required size, the seat is placed in the tubwith the dam "3 at the proper distance from the inlet end of the tub and its yieldable bottom and sides against the bottom and sides of the tub. Upon the person seating himself on the seat 4, his weight will cause the yieldable edge 6 of the dam or'partition 3 to press tightly against the tub and form a substantially portion and a dam depending therefrom provided with a yieldable edge adapted tocontact with the bottom and sides of a bath tub to form a substantially water-tight partition in the tub.
2. A bath-tub seat, comprising a seat portion provided with suitable supports, and a dam depending from the seat portion provided with a yieldable edge adapted to contact with the bottom and sides of a bathtub to form a substantially water-tight partition in the tub.
3. A bath-tub seat comprising a seat portion, and a dam depending therefrom provided with a yieldable edge adapted to contact with the bottom and sides of a bathtub to form a substantially water-tight partition in the tub,- said seat portion being provided at one side with suitable supports, the said dam constituting the support for the other side of the seat portion.
\ 4 4. A bath-tub seat eomprising a seat portion, and a dam depending therefrom the edge of which is provided with yielding ma teria-l adapted under pressure on the seat 5 portion to contact With the bottom and sides of a bath-tub to form a substantially Watertight partition in the tub, said seat portion being provided at one side ivith suitable supports, the said dam constituting the support for the other side of the seat portion. 1a
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
