Be it known that I, FRED Mannercitizen of the United States, residing at Negaunee, in the county of Marquette and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements Rotary Washing-Brushes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention is an improved rotary washing brush or washing machine for use for washing windows, automobiles, rugs and the like, the, objectof the invention being to provide an improved machine of this kind embodying a brush and water power driven means for rotating the brush and supplying the same with water, and also for mixing washing soda or the like with water and supplying the mixture to the brush.

In the embodiment of my invention I provide a mixing tank 1 in the bottom of which are a pair of strainers 2 of suitable mesh. A discharge pipe 3 leads from the bottom of the tank and is connected thereto as at 4, at the center. A ring 5 is placed on the uppermost strainer 2 and fits snugly Figs. 5-6

in the tank and on the said ring bears a disk 6 which is secured around the lower, open end of. a cylindrical screen 7, the said disk having'an opening corresponding with the .diameter of the screen and the latter having a top 8'which is'provided with a central opening.

A revoluble mixing shaft 9 has its lower end. mounted in a central opening in the screens andv has its'upper end mounted in a bearing in a bar 10 which bar is detachably fitted in bracketears 11 in opposite sides of the mixing tank. The tank has a cover 12 detachably secured thereon by means of.

links 13 and levers 14 which are pivotally connected'to the links as at 16 and pivotally mounted on opposite 'sidesfof the tank as at 17 The cover has a filler opening 18 and a closure 19 screwed in said opening, this enabling the tank to be supplied with washing soda or other like material which is used for forming a washing solution.

A pipe 20 is detachably secured \to-the lower end" of the discharge pipe 3 of the tank by a,,-'l' 21. A pipe 22 is connected to said pipe 20 by a T 23 and embodies'an elbow 24 and a member 25, said member being connected by a coupling 26 to a pipe 27 which is connected to the tanklnear one side and,

near the upper end thereof. The pipe 20 is' connected by the T 23 to a pipe 28 which. has a cutoff valve, 29 said pipe being con- 'nectedby an elbow 3O to'a pipe3l which has a coupling 32 to enable any ordinary hose to be connected thereto.

.A rotary water motor. 33 is detachably connectedto the upper end of the mixing shaft 9 and is arranged in the upper portion of the tank and with one side presented to from said pipe 31 will be discharged in a jet against the motdr and the latter rotated,

Said shaft has stirring arms or mixing arms 3 1 which serve to thoroughly mix the washing soda 'or other. material with the water in the tank 1 and hence supply the solution or mixture to the pipe 31' which is beveled as at 41. A motor screw 42 is detachably threaded in the lower end of the threaded nipple and passes through and is revoluble snugly in a pipe 43 which is detachably connected by a coupling 44 to the upper end of the nipple, said pipe having at its lower or outer end a coupling member 46 provided with a tapered end 47 which has a bearing in. the beveled upper end of the nipple, said member having a bearing in the coupling and hence the motor screw and the brush are arranged for rotation. Thepipe 43 is detachably connected to the T21 so that the motor screw is also partly arranged for rotation in the pipe 20.'

Assuming that the water has been turned on in the hose, and that the valve 29 is open,

the water passes through the pipe 20 and the pipe 43 and will act on the motor screw to revolve the latter and the brush, the water also, by reason of the provision of the rose, serving to supply the brush, from the center of the latter.- Water which passes through the pipe 22 and pipe 27 engagesthe rotor the pipes 20 and 22 being omitted and the pipe 28 being coupled directly to the elbow 24. In this arrangement of the device the pipe 43 is coupled directly to the pipe'3, the motor screw is disconnected from the brush and removed and a mim'ng shaft 9 of suf ficient length is substituted for that shown in Figs. 12, said mixing shaft having its outer end threaded to the nipple of the rotary brush and its inner end connected to the rotor. The-brush will be revolved by the rotor as willbeunderstood, the rotor also operating the stirring or mixing arms 9" on the said shaft 9*. The rotor. shaft may be of any suitable length and may be made of sections, detachably secured together as at 9 in Fig.3.

In Fig. 4 of the drawings we show another arrangement of the invention in which the mixing tank'is entirely omitted and the pipe 43 is coupled to a tubular section 50 andsaid section 50 is connected, to the outer end of the pipe 31 by an elbow 51. In washing apparatus of the class described a tube arranged for coupling to a hose, a motor screw arranged for rotation in the tube, and a rotary brush mounted at the outer. end of the tube and provided with means to convey water to the brush bristles from said tube, the said motor screw being connected to said brush, and serving to revolve the latter, and said pipe being pro" vided with means for the attachment of a handle thereto.

2. In a washing apparatus of the class described, a mixing tank, a rotor therein, mixing means in the tank including a revoluble element connected to and operated by the rotor, a discharge duct extending from .the mixing tank, a rotary brush connected to said discharge duct, a motor screw in said discharge duct and connected to the rotary brush to rotate the latter and a water supply pipe having a connection leading to the mixing tank to rotate the rotor and supply the mixing tank with water and also having a connection leading to the discharge duct.

3. A washing machine comprising a mixing tank, a. water supply pipe connected to the mixing tank adjacent thetop thereof, a

a rotary water motor mounted on said mixing shaft adjacent the water supply pipe, a cylindrical screen secured to said shaft, a discharge duct extending from said mixing tank, arotary brush connected to said discharge duct and means for rotating said brush. V

4. A washing machine comprising a mixing tank, a water supply pipe connected to said mixing tank adjacent the top thereof, a plurality of screens positioned within said mixing tank and provided with a central aperture therein, a ring positioned. within the mixing tank between the edges of the screen and the side walls of. said mixing tank, a disk mounted upon said rings and provided with openings therein, a mixing shaft journaled in the bottom wall of the mixing tank and adapted to ass through the openings of the screens and said disk, a cylindrical screen mounted on said mixing shaft, means for rotating said mixing shaft, a discharge duct connected to the bottom of said mixing tank, a rotary brush connected to said discharge duct and means for rotating said brush.
