Specification of Letters Patent. Patented lItll. 28, 1916 Original application filed October 29, 1915, Serial No. 58,576. Divided and this application filed February To all whom it mag concern: y Be it known'that I, MEY RL. ROBBINS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the'city, county,'and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Watch-Bracelets, ofwhich the seen that a bracelet watch is being used. By 7 the use of my improved end link and means for connecting the same to the watch case, this disadvantage is avoided and the watch can readily be detached from the bracelet and worn in any other manner without. it being known that a bracelet watch is being used. V
These and other improvements are carried out by my invention, a more particular description of which will appear below.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, annexed hereto and forming part hereof, Figure 1 is a lan view of my improved attaching link showing the method of connection to the watch, a portion of the watch case being shown; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the locking member of the attaching link;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation partly in section of the attaching link; and Fig. 4 is a plan view of the same.
7 Throughout the various views of the drawings. similar reference characters designate similar parts.
This application is a division of my copending application, Ser. No. 58,576, filed October 29th,'1915.
My improved attaching link in which the invention resides consists of an outer member having two trough shaped side members 1, connected at their ends by the cross members 2. The locking member 3, of the attaching link is slidably mounted within the outer member and has two resilient tongues 5 and 6. The lower tongue 6 is slit as at? dividing the end of the tongue 6 into two parts 8, each of which parts has an offset engagementwith the watch bracelet.
5, 1916. Serial No. 7 ,312.
arm 9., the ends of said arms 9'being provided with studs 10 which studs extend to-v ward one another and form jaws to engage the watch case, as will now be described.
The watch case 13 is provided with the usual hinge 12, and formed in the ends of said hinge are recesses 11, into which the studs 10 extend. A collar 14 is slidablV mounted on the attaching member and has openings 15 and 16 through which the tongues 5 and 6 pass. The tongue 5 is provided adjacent its free end and on its'upper face with a projection 17 and a hooked and serrated outer end 18. A spring 4 extends between the end 2 of the outer member and the rear of the attaching or locking member and tends'to hold the attaching member within the-outer memberas shown in Fig. 1, whereby the front of the outer member bears against the collar 14 andprevents the collar 1% from moving back on the attaching member until the attaching member is pulled forward, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4,
' against the tension ofthe spring-4. When m this position the tongue 5-can be pushed down so that the collar 14 can move over the projection 17 and be slid back on the attaching member allowing a spreading of the jaws, as shown in Fig. 2. whereby the attaching link can be readily removed from In case the link inadvertently assumes the position shown in Figs. 3 and 1, as when the links of the bracelet are expanded when placing the same on the arm, thecollar 1% is further prevented from slipping back on the locking member by the projection 17.
From the foregoing, it is obvious that my invention is not restricted to the exact embodiment shown herein but is broad enough to cover all structures coming within the scope of the annexed claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim is: I
1. A- fastening means for watch bracelets and the like, com rising an outer link, a locking member slidable therein, jaws on said locking member for engaging a watch, movable means slidable on said locking member for drawing said jaws toward one another and holding the same into engage, ment with a watch case, and means on the locking member for holding said movable and the like comprising an outer link, a locking member slidably mounted within said outer link, a pair of laterally movable jaws on one end of said locking member, means independent of the outer link movable cn the locking member for drawing the jaws together and holding the same in their contracted position in engagement'with a watch case, and means for holding said movable means in position.
3. A fastening means for watch bracelets and the like comprising an outer link, a locking member slidable within said outer link having a pair of tongues, a clamn formed on the end of one of said tongues for engaging awatch case, means independent of the outer link embracing both of said tongues and drawing the sides of the clamp together for engaging a watch case and a spring extending between the outer link and the look ing member.
4. A fastening means for watch bracelets and the like comprising an outer member, a locking member slidable within said outer member, a spring extending between the outer member and locking member, a pair,
of resilient tongues on said locking member, theend of one of said tongues having a pair of laterally distensible jaws, a sliding collar mounted on the locking member and embracing both of'said tongues. and adapted to draw the jaws toward one another whereby said jaws are held in engagement with a;
watch case.
5. A fastenlngmeans for bracelets and the like comprising a'watch case having a pair of openin s, a clasp com ri ing an outer link, a lacking member slidable witl1- in the outer link having a pair of resilient tongues, one of said tongues being split; divldlng the tongue into two arn1s,; studs on said arms for engaging the openings in the watch case, .a slidable collar'on the catch member for drawing the arms together and retaining the studs inengagement with the openings inthe watch case and a projection on one of the tongues of the catchniemher :forengaging the collar.
6. A fastening means for watch bracelets able on said tongue and embracing the jaws,-
means for holding the locking member within the outer link, a portion of said outer link bearing againstthe collar and holding the same against vmovement whereby .a. distension or spreading of the jaws is prevented.
Signed in the'city, county .and- State of New York, this 31st davof January. 1916.
