ALEXANDER MORTEN, or new YORK, I Y.
FICE.
TICKET-HOLDER.
Application filed June 15, 1815.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALEXANDER MoRTEn, a citizen of the United States, and a resldent of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the country and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Ticket-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved ticket holder, more especially designed for holding a number of tickets, such, for instance, as are issued for use on street cars, elevated roads, subways and other means of transportation, and which ticket holder is very simple and durable in construction, cheap to manufacture and arranged to permit the user to conveniently carry it in a vest pocket and to allow the user to readily removethe tickets singly whenever it is desired to do so.
In order to accomplish the desired result, use is may of a box adapted to contain a series of superimposed tickets, the box being formed from a single piece of sheet material having one end terminating 1n a resilient member extending within the box and engaging the lowermost ticket, to press the series of tickets outward, whereby the uppermost ticket is caused to lie under the face member of the box, the said box end being spaced from the said face member to provide an exit slot in register with the uppermost of the said tickets.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the ticket holder arranged for holding two sets of different tickets; Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of the same on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross section of the same on the line 33 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a face view of the blank for forming the box; and Fig. 5 is a sectional side elevation of a ticket holder arranged for holding a single set of tickets.
The ticket holder is in the form of a box formed from a single piece of Sheet metal or other sheet material, shaped as shown in Fig. 4:, and bent along-the dotted lines indicated in the said figure, to form opposite face members A, ]3, sides C, D, ends E, F, a closing flap G, and spring tongues H and Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 29, 1916.
Serial No. 34,179.
I. The closing flap G is preferably on the side D and overlaps the adjacent edge of the face member A to which it may be soldered or otherwise fastened. The face member A is preferably provided with an abutting flange G against which abuts the sides D (see Fig. 3) to strengthen the box. The spring tongues H and I extend from opposite edges of the ends E and F in an inward direction to divide the interior of the box into two compartments for holding different sets of tickets J and K, of which one set may be tickets good for use on one line of transportation and the other set of tickets good for another line of transportation.
The face members A and B are provided with openings A, B to permit of viewing the uppermost tickets of the two sets of tickets so that the user can readily determine which of the tickets he intends to use for the time being. The openings A and B also permit the user to engage a finger with the uppermost ticket'and project the same outward through a corresponding exit slot L or N formed between the corresponding face member A and the end F or the face member B and the end E, as will be readily understood bv reference to Fig. 2. Thus a simple forwardi pressure on the uppermost ticket through the corresponding opening A or B causes the uppermost ticket to pass out of the slot L or N to be taken hold of at the outer end by the user to completely pull the ticket out of the box.
If desired, the box may be arranged for containing a single set of tickets, as shown in Fig. 5, it being understood that in this case only the end F is provided with a spring tongue I while the other spring tongue H is omitted and the end E is extended clear up to the face member B so that this end of the box is without the slot N.
In practice, the transportation company issuing the tickets provides the boxes for the same, it being understood that each box contains a certain number of tickets which with the ticket holder can be sold at the aggregate face value of the tickets contained in the box especially as the box is so simple of construction and cheap to manufacture that after it has been emptied of its tickets it can be thrown away as of no further use. The box, however, may be retained and refilled with tickets through adapted to contain a series of superimposed tickets, the box being, formed of a single piece of sheet material having one box end terminating in a resilient member extending within the box and engaging the lowermost ticket to press the tickets against the under side of the face member of the box,
the said box end being spaced from the said face member to provide an exit slot in register with the uppermost of the said tickets.
2; A ticket holder, comprising a box adapted to contain a series of superimposed tickets, the box being formed of a single piece of sheet material having one box end terminating in a resilient member extending Within the box and engaging the lowermost ticket to press the tickets against the under side of the face member of the box, the said box end being spaced from the said face member to provide an exit slot in register with the uppermost of the said 7 the said slot.
tickets, the ,said face member having an opening for engaging a fingerwith the outermostticket to push'the said ticket through 3. A ticket holder, comprising tickets, the ends of the said box terminating at opposite edges in inwardly extending a 7 boxadapted to contain two sets of dilferent spring tongues forming rests for the innermost tickets of the said tWo sets of tickets, the'edges of the ends having the tongues being spaced from the adjacent face members of the box to provide an exit slot at each endof the box, one for each set of tickets, each exit slot registering with the uppermost ticket of the corresponding set of tickets, and each face member of the box having an opening for the passage of a finger to. engage the corresponding uppermost ticket and push the same outward through its registering slot.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
