TELEPHONE ATTACHMENT.
Application filed October 28, 1914. Serial No. 869,136.
To all whom-it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY C. Mnnnrr'r, J r.', a citizen of the United States, residmg at Tuckahoe, in the county of VVestchest'er and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Telephone Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and
exact description of the invention, such as will enableothers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to attachmentsfor telephones, and has. for its object to provide a device of this character attachable to the base of a portable desk telephone and including a slidable member or drawer in which is arranged a writing tablet and pencil for the use of the person usingthe telephone.
Another object is the provision of an attachment of the character specified which shall be simple, inexpensive and inconspicuous.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction; arrangement and formation of partsas will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 represents a fragmental view of a desk telephone, showing the attachment applied to use.
Fig. '2 represents a diametrical sectional view taken through the attachment. v Fig. 3 represents a top plan view of one part ofthe attachment removed from the other part. Fig. 4 represents a top plan view of the other part. Fig. 5 represents an enlarged detail sectional view; Fig. 6 represents a detail view, partly broken away of the device for limiting the movement of the slidable member.
Referring to the'drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates generally the body or support of the attachment, which is preferably stamped from sheet metal and is curved to fit beneath the circular base of a desk telephone. The inner portion of the body 5 isdepressed, as indicated at 6, and a plurality of tongues or slits? are formed integral with the outer edge thereof suitably bent for engagement with the base of the telephone, as will be hereinafterclearly described.
A slidable plate or telephone accessory carrying member 10 is slidably mounted over the centrally depressedportion of the body or support 5 and is provided with curved extensions 11 projecting laterally therefrom and forming-a continuation of the body 5 when the drawer or plate is closed. The attachment is so arranged that the curved front edge of the plate lOis disposed at the front of the desk telephone, and the spring clip or tongue 12 formed integral with the central front edge of the plate is adapted for engagement with the base of said telephone. A plurality oftongues 13 are struck upward from the. plate 19 and a pad of paper 14 or other telephone accessory is positioned under said "tongues. A pencil, or the like 15, is removably positioned within a depression 16 formed longitudinally ,of the plate 10. Laterally projecting arms 17 are secured to the rear end of the plate 10 and are adapted to engage angular strips 18 carried by the" body 5 to limit the forward movement of the plate 10 and prevent the -same from being completely withdrawn from under the telephone base.
In use, the attachment is attached to the bottom of the base 20 of a portable desk telephone bymeans of the spring clips or tongues 7 carried by the body. 5, and the plate 10 is slidably retained between the body 5 and base 20. The plate 10 may be conveniently withdrawn, when desired, by
means of the front clip or tongue 12, and
such notes as desired may be written upon the tablet or pad 14 with the pencil 15. If
desired, calendar (not shown) may be secured upon the clip or tongue 12 so as to be constantly in View.
What I claim is 1. A telephone attachment comprising a supporting element, means for securing ,said supporting element in spaced relation to the base of a desk telephone, a telephone accessory carrying element slidably mounted upon said support, and means carried by i said accessory carrying element adapted to engage the base of a telephone to retain said element in closed position.
2. A telephone attachment comprising a supporting element, means for securing said supporting element in spaced relation to the base of a desk telephone, an accessory carrying element slidably mounted upon said supporting element, means for limiting the outward movement of said accessory carrying element, and means carried by said accessory carrying element adapted to engage the to limit the outward movement of said accessory carrying element. V q
4. A telephone attachment comprising a support, means for securing said support in spaced relation tothe base of a desk-telephone, a telephone accessory carrying ele-a,
ment slidably mounted upon said support, arms carried by said accessory carrying element, means on said support adapted to be engaged by said arms to limit the outward movement of said accessory carrying element, and means carried by, said carrying element adapted to engage the base of a desk telephone to retain said element in closed position. X Y
5. A telephone attachment comprising a support, means for securing said support to the base of a desk telephone, a telephone accessory carrying element slidably mounted upon said support, and a spring clip carried by said accessory carrying element adapted 7 to engage the base of a telephone to retain said carrying element in closed position,
6. A telephone attachment comprising a support, means for securing said support to the base of a telephone, an accessory carrymg element'slidably mounted upon said support and located between the latter and the base of a telephonefmeans for limiting the outward movement of said carrying element with relation to said support, and a spring clip carried by said carrying element adapted to engage the base of a telephone to retain said carrying element in closed position.
In. testimony whereof I affix my signature vin presence'of two witnesses.
