KEYLESS LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 19, 19315.
Application filed October 26, 1914. Serial No. 863,618.
To all whom it may concern lie it known that I, Srnvn KUKTA, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Chichester, in the county of Ulster and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Keyless Locks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a keyless lock and has for its object to provide a lock of such class which is comparatively simple in its construction, strong, durable, eflicient and convenient in its use, readily set up and comparatively inexpensive.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views :F igure 1 is an elevation of a drawer showing the adaptation therewith of a lock in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of a lock. Fig. 3 is a side elevation. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a lock casing. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a shifting member. Fig. 6 is a like view of the lower portion of a lock bolt. Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the holding member. Fig. 8 is a like view of the releasing member.
Referring to the drawings in detail the lock includes a casing having a front wall 9 and a pair of side walls 10, 11, and a bottom wall 12. The rear edge of each of the side walls is provided with a pair of shoulders 13, 1st. The rear edge of the bottom wall is notched as at 15 to provide a seat. The front wall is formed with a lengthwise extending opening 16 and the inner face of said front wall, at its lower end, has a recess 17, in which is arranged a vertical extending pin 18.
Seated upon the pin 18 is a vertical dis posed coil spring 19 which bears against the lock bolt carried on the latter and consists of a front plate 20, arranged forward of the front wall 9 and which closes the openings 16. The carrier further includes an arm 21,
which projects at right angles with respect to the plate 20 and is formed integral with the inner face of said plate 20. The arm 21 has a longitudinal bolt 22 which communicates with an opening 23 formed in the plate 20. The arm 21 is furthermore provided, at each side, with a groove 2 1. The spring 19 bears against the lower face of the arm 21.
Associating with the carrier is a lock bolt comprising a head 25 and a shank 26, the latter being split as at 27, and notched as at 28 to form shoulders 29. The slitting of the shank 26 provides a pair of arms 30, 31 and which are adapted to straddle the arm 21 of the carrier and seat in the groove 2%. The shoulders 29 bear against the lower face of the arm 21. The shank 26 of the bolt, when the lock is mounted in position, passes through the opening 32, in a support or plate and said openings 32 terminate in a re cess 34, which is adapted to receive the head 25 of the bolt, when the latter is lowered, or the bolt released.
The lock is provided with a releasing member, which consists of a pin 35, mounted in the opening 23 and bolt 22 and has its inner end formed with a head 36, provided with a pair of forward projecting lugs 37, 38. The lugs 37, 38, straddle the inner end of the arm 21 and the head 36 is normally seated upon the shoulder l3,to release down ward movement of the lock bolt. The head 36 is maintained upon the shoulders 13, through the medium of a retaining member, consisting of a resilient curved arm 39, having an enlarged end 40, which is mounted in the recess 15, and secured in position by hold fast devices 4-1. The arm 39 bears against the head 36, under such conditions maintaining the latter upon the shoulder 13.
When the pin 35 is forced inward, the head 36 clears the shoulder 13, and the carrier can be shifted downward until the head 36 engages the shoulders 14-, when the downward movement of the lock bolt will be released.
Preferably the lock bolt 10 is carried by an ornamental plate 12, and said casing is seated in a pocket -13, formed in the support 33.
W hat I claim is 2- 1. A look comprising a casing, having the rear walls thereof shouldered to form stops, a resiliently supported and vertically reciprocable carrier extending into said casing, a spring controlled releasing member eXtending through and movable with said carrier and including a head arranged at the rear of the carrier, said head capable of engaging said stops to allow downward movement of the carrier, means for normally maintaining said head upon said stops, and a lock bolt connected with the carrier and vertically movable therewith.
2. A lock comprising a casing having the rear walls thereof shouldered to form steps, a resiliently supported and vertically reciprocable carrier extending into said casing, a spring controlled releasing member extending through and movable with said carrier and including a head arranged at the rear of the carrier, said head capable of engaging said stops for normally maintaining said head upon said stops, and a lockbolt connected with the carrier and vertically movable therewith, said carrier further including a plate arranged at the outside of said casing, and said releasing member projecting through said plate and capable of being operated from the outside of the plate.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
