and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenablepthers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification. I
This invention relates to fluid heaters and consists in certain improvements hereinafter set forth and described.
The features of my invention are illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follows Figure 1, is a side view elevation of a fluid heater embodying my invention, with portions of the shell thereof broken away, showing portions-of the fluid heater in vertical section. Fig. 2, is an end View thereof, looking in the direction of the arrow F w in Fig. 1, with closure plates removed.
Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same on the line m-w looking in the direction of the arrow 11 in Fig. 1. Fig. 4, is a like section through the shell only of the heater, looking in the direction of the arrow 2 in Fig. 1. showing the spiral deflector secured intheend plate of the heater.
In these drawings A indicates the shell of the fluid heater, which is preferably cylindrical in shape. Within one end of the shell A, I place a hollow, annular header B,
. which is supported upon a rib b, which rests upon and is. secured against. the lower interior wall of the cylinder A. In the opposite end of the cylinder A, I secure a head A. and in the .upper portion of this head A. there is a segmental opening a. On the inside of the head A overthe segmental opening a, is secured a segmental header plate A Extending between the segmental header plate A and the uppermost segment of the annular header B in the opposite end of the cylinder A are tubes C the ends of which are secured in the header plate A and in the annular header B in the usual manner. Access to the interior cavity of the annular header B is had through openings in the side thereof, which are closed by means of screw plugs 12' as shown in Fig. 1.. Each one of said screw lugs 7), being on the axial plane of its corresponding tube C, so that a tool may be inserted through the hole occupied by a plug 7) for the purpose of expanding the ends of the tubes C to secure them in the header B, after which operatlon the plugs b" are inserted and screwed into the holes in the header B. The segmental header at the opposite end of the cylinder A is closed by means of a closure plate D screwed over thesegmental opening a by means of tap-bolts d and is provided with an opening d adapted to have a pipe connected thereto. In the lower portion of the cylinder head A, is another opening in which there is secured a segmental header E. Extending between the header E and the lower-most segment of the header B, in the opposite end of the cylinder A, are tubes C, the ends of which are secured in the headers B and E, as herebefore described with relation to the upper tubes C. The header E is closed bymeans of a closure plate E secured over the face thereof, by means of bolts 6 in the usual manner, the plate E being provided with an opening 6 to which a pipe may be coupled. In the upper wall of the cylinder A adjacent to the head A" is a pipe F which communicates with the interior of the cylinder,
, and in the lower wall of the cylinder A adjacent to the header B I secure another pipe F. The end of the cylinder A adjacent to the header B is closed by means of a cylinder head A. In an opening a 1n the central portion thereof, is secured a spiral or tangential fluid jet G with which is connected a fluid supply pipe G leading from a source of fluid supply.
In operation a heat conveying medium is introduced into the tubes C or C through one of the pipe openings d or c. If a heat conveying medium such as exhaust steam, is introduced into the header E through the pipe opening 0 it will travel through the tubes C and through the hollow, annular header B and thence through the tubes C to the segmental header A and out through the pipe-"opening d, thus completing a circuit, longitudinally of the cylinder, through the tubes C and C, thus heating the same.
Fluid to be heated is introduced into the cylinder A through the supply pipe G and the spiral jet G- and flows from the cylinder A by means of the pipe F in the upper wall scription thereof is deemed unnecessary.
