Description

G. H. NASH. COVER FOR TELEPHONIC APPARATUS. APPLIGATIQNJFILEDJANJ, 191 1,
7M. Owen/0r.-
" Patn t ed Jan. 20, 1914.
I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE HOWARD NASH, OF HIGHBURY, LONDON, ENGLAND, ASSIGNOB T0 WESTERN ELECTRIC COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
COVER FOR TELEPHONIG APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 20, 1914.
Application filed January 9, 1911. Serial No. 601,568.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE HOWARD Nnsrr, a subject of Great Britain, residing at 69 Balfour road, Hig'hbury, in the county of London and country of England, have invented a certain new and useful Improveshall be adapted to removal and replacement in the limited space occupied by such apparatus on a telephone exchange switchboard.
In the accompanying drawing,-Figure 1 shows a series of contact points with the cylindrical cover in position, but partly broken away; Fig. 2 shows the fixed and movable sections of the cylindrical cover, the
' latter partly removed; and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the fixed section of the cover.
The drawing illustrates a cover in two cylindrical sections preferably made of stamped metal; one section has a holding device a by which it, with its inc'losed mov able contact points 79, is rigidly supported in position on the switchboard. One section of the cover 0 1s movable and has indentations upon its inner surface near one end, as at i; the section c is provided with a handle h on its free end by which it may be turned or rotated. The fixedsection (1 has grooves e into which the projections i lit. The groove 6 and projection 5 together form a bayonet joint; the groove 6 at its opening end has a quick turn and at its closed end the turn is slow. The meeting surfaces of the two sections 0 and d, are held in fixed relation by springs 1' struck up from the section (1 and projecting from its exposed outer-surface. There is a base or support 8 with which the section a engages and the cover, when the section 0 is in position, is designed to bedustproof.
It is to be understood that the described cover is applicable to such telephone relays as are shown and described in United States Letters Patent No. 592,432, dated October 26, 1897, issued upon the application of F. R. McBerty.
\Vhat I claim is:
A casing for electrical apparatus comprising a base, a cover therefor in two parts, each part consisting of a cylindrical section, one mounted on said base and the other titting over the first section and engaging said base, means for connecting said sect-ions comprising a helical groove struck up in the wall of one section and a projection struck up in the Wall of the other section adapted to cooperate with said groove in the first section, and a spring located between the meeting surfaces of said sections.
In witness whereof, I, hereunto subscribe my name this 28th day of December A. D.,
lVitnesses C. P. ,LIDDON, RIPLEY WILSON.
Copies of this patent may be obtained? togflvagents each, by addressing the Commissioner of ratentl, Washington, D. 0."
