Be it known that I, JACOB P. TIRRILL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sample-Books, of which the followin is a full, clear, and exact description, re erence being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

My invention relates to a sample book including a set or series of samples of sheet material, for example, paper, the invention having primarily for its object the production of a sample book of this kind suitable for use in holding and displaying a con siderable number of sheets of paper, either of light or heavy weight, and of difierent grades or qualities and colors.

Figure I is a perspective view of my sample book as utilized for holding sample sheets of heavy weight paper, such as cardboard, the book being shown open. Fig. II is a cross section through the book shown in Fig. I, closed, the section being taken on a line intersecting the pivot post by which the sample sheets are secured to one of the book covers.

In the accompanying drawings: 1 and 2 designate the covers of my sample book, these covers being joined by a back 3 that may be either hinged to the covers or be of flexible material to permit of movement of the top cover 2 relative to the bottom cover 1.

The bottom cover 1 of my sample book serves as back for a stack of sample sheets A and said cover is provided with longitudinal ribs 1 located adjacent to its outer and inner side edges between which the bottommost of the sample sheets A are confined to prevent slip-page thereof on the bottom cover.

4 designates a binding post secured to the bottom cover 1 adjacent to one of its codeners and the sample sheets are provided with perforations permitting their application to this binding post on which they are held by a nut 5 that serves to clamp the sheets to only a sufficient degree to prevent their pivotal movement on the binding post when the sample book is being carried, butpermit of such pivotal movement of the sample sheets when they are clasped by a persons hand or pressure is exerted thereagainst to move one or more of the topmost sheets laterally and expose a sheet or sheets beneath it to view.

The top cover 2 is provided with a pocket 6 intended to contain price lists or other data it may be desired to make use of in connection with the sample sheets of paper or merchandise mounted on the bottom cover and which, by being placed in the pocket, are always conveniently accessible for reference.

The herein described sample holder is of especial utility when used by merchants and salesmen to exhibit samples of merchandise, such as paper, as it provides for the samples being kept in a good state of preservation to conveniently display the samples.

The provision of the pocket on one of the covers makes itpossible for the user of the book to constantly keep closely associated with the samples, price list, or other memoranda that may be desired when exhibiting the samples.

I claim:

A sample book comprising a bottom cover and a top cover, a series of sample sheets surmounting said bottom cover, a threaded pivot post secured to said bottom cover and extending through corners of the sample sheets, and a nut fitted to said pivot post adapted to clamp the sheets together so as to prevent said sheets from turning on the pivot post independently of each other, combined with the ribs 1 engaging the lowermost sheets to prevent them from turning on said pivot post.
