To all whom t 'may concern t v Be it known that I, VILFRED DUrR, citi- Zen of the United States of America, residing at Vorcester, in the county of Vorcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Scrubbers and Mops, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to brushing and scrubbing and particularly to a combined scrubbei1 and mop.

An object of this invention is to provide a novel scrubber designed to be operated in a novel manner for attaching a scrubbing brush of novel construction, and to provide means connected with the scrubber, whereby the said brush may be held against dislodgment or turning. Y

A further object of this invention is to provide an attachment for a scrubbing brush to permit the application or removal of the said scrubbing brush without affecting the mop or without dismantling the mop holder and wringer. i

Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, in which- Figure 1 illustrates a view in elevation of a mop holder and wringer with the invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 illustrates a View similar to Fig. 1 with the mop in a different position, and with a brush applied to the same; Fig. 3 illustrates an enlarged detail perspective view of the attachment applied to a fragment of the device shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 4 illustrates a view in elevation of the said attachment; Fig. 5 illustrates an enlarged detail view of a scrubbing brush and a fragment of the wringer; and Fig. 6 illustrates a perspective view of the scrubbing brush. Fig. 7 is an end elevation of the plate illustrated in Fig. ll.

In these drawings 7 denotes a slotted bearing for the wringer rollers 8 and 9, the latter of which is provided with a crank 10 and handle 10 for turning the roller 9 to operate on the mop 11. The roller 9 is held in its bearing by the wire 12 which is at.- tached to a latch 13, but as the details of Specification of Letters Patent.

construction of these elements are not a part of the present invention, they will not be described in detail.

The attachment for the mop comprises a plate 141 having the flanges 15 and 16 thereon which stand at angles to the edges of the plate and serve as mop engaging devices for pressing the mop into contact with the surface heilig scrubbed, and furthermore acting as a brush engaging member (to be presently explained). The ends 17 of the plate stand at right angles to the length of the plate and the said ends have flanges 1S and 19 thereon which engage the sides of the slotted bearing 7, as shown in Fig. 3.

The end portion 17 has an aperture 20 for the reception of a shaft 21v of the roller 9; the crank 10 being an extension of the said shaft 21. The manner of applying the attachment to the slotted bearings is shown in Fig. 3, as stated, and when the shaft 21 is inserted through the apertures in the ends of the said attachment, the roller 9 and attachment are in such relation that they cannot be detached from each other, and the attachment is prevented from rotary motion by reason of the engagement of the flanges 1S and 19 with the slotted bearings 7.

The brush has a head 22 provided with a scraper 23 projecting from one side thereof, the bristles 211 of the brush being of any ordinary type. The ends of the head 22 have studs 25 therein which are designed to be engaged by the bail 26 which has its intermediate portion looped around the shaft 21. One end of the bail 26 is shown as having an eye 27 to receive one of the studs 25, whereas the other end of the said bail is curved to partially embrace the other of said studs.

The top of the brush head is provided with a recess 28 and a longitudinally disposed slot 29, the former of which receives and forms a seat for the roller 9, and the latter of which forms a seat for one of the flanges 15 or 16. The relation of the two flanges 15 and 16 is such that one of said flanges fits in the slot 29, whereas the other of said flanges engages the upper surface of the head of the brush, as shown in Fig. 5, thus preventing movement of the brush with relation to the flanges.

The attachment and the brush will prove of great advantage in scrubbing devices, owing to the fact that the brush is readily applied to and removed from the mop holder and wringer, and the advantage will be more apparent when it is considered that there is a strong and durable connection between the said attachment and the brush, so that the brush cannot tilt, but will be vheld rigid through its engagement with the attachment- A still further and very great advantage resides in the fact that the ribs 15 and 16 can be utilized as scrapers, for removing from floors such foreign substance as chewing gum which may have adhered thereto, or the protruding heads of tacks and the like.

Another great advantage consists in the fact that the mop and brush may be used alternately Without changing their relative connections; but, by simply reversing the position of the device; that is, by inverting the brush, the mop is brought into Contact with the iioor in substantially the saine operative relation shown in Fig. l. It is also obviously possible to use the mop and brush simultaneously, when desirable, by changing the mop from the position shown in Fig. 2 to the opposite, or under side; whereupon, it may be held in more intimate contact with the floor, by the pressure of the brush on the mop.

I claim:

l. In combination with a mop holder and mop, wringer rollers, a frame having bearings for the rollers, a plate having flanges, a brush having a slot to receive one of the flanges is seated, and means for holding the brush and the plate in united relation.

3. In a scrubbing device, a frame, said frame carrying a mop and rollers for wringing` the mop, a plate secured to the frame, said plate having its ends turned at an angle to its intermediate portion, flanges on the turned ends of the plate adapted to engage the frame, flanges on the intermediate portion of the plate, a brush having a slotto receive one of the intermediate flanges, and means for detaehably securing the brush in fixed relation to the brush-engag ing flange.
