LettersPatentNo.10 2-,033, dated April 19, 1870.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part oLthe same.
To whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALONZO NOTEMAN, of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Redistilling and Rectifying Apparatus andl do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is an elevation of my apparatus.
Figure 2 is a vertical section of the same.
Like letters indicate likeparts in each figure.
The nature of this invention relates tot-he construction ofan' apparatus by means of which spirits may be redistilled and rectified at the same time, thereby insuring more pure spirits, and more free from fusil-oil and other impurities than when treated in the ordinary method.
The invention consists'in converting the spirits into steam in a water-hath or other appropriate device, and conducting said steam. into the bottom of an appropriate rectifier, filled with charcoal, in the usual manner. On rising through the charcoal to the top of the rectifier, the steam is conducted through a proper pipe into the top of a similar rectifier, and similarly filled with charcoal. The latter-named rectifier is inclosed in an appropriate condenser, into which cold water is admitted, by means of which the steam is condensed,
and is discharged through a suitable pipe leading from the bottom of the last-named rectifier, a pure spirit.
In the drawings- A represents a rectifier provided with the usual false bottom, and filled in the ordinary manner with charcoal.
An inlet-pipe, a, conducts the steam from the converting water-bath into the bottom of this rectifier.
An outlet-pipe, b, conducts the steam, after it has risen through the charcoal to the top of the rectifier, into the top of another similar rectifier, 0, which is placed within the "condenser B, where the steam is condensed, and, after filtering through the charcoal in the last-named rectifier, the purified spirits are drawn off through the outlet-pipe e.
From any suitable reservoir the water-inlet pipe 0 conducts cold water into the condenser B in a continuous stream, which finds an outlet through the pipe d, which passes upwardthrongh the bottom and center of the rectifier B, and out at the side of the condenser at a. pointa little lower than that where the inlet-pipe c enters, so that the condenser may be nearly filled with water before any water is discharged.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of the rectifier A, the inlet-pipe a, the outlet-pipe b, the condenser 13, the rectifier O,
the water-inlet pipe 0, and water-outlet pipe (I, and spiritdischarge pipe 0,- when constructed as described, and for the purpose set forth.
