The Schedule referred in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

Be it knownA that I, ARCHIBALD W. REID, of Schenectady, in they county of Schenectady and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Leather-scouring andSetting-Machine; and I do dcclare that the followingl is a full, dear, and exact description thereof, which wili enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specication.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation partly in section of my improved'leather-scouring and setting machine.
Figure 2 is a detail vertical section of the scouringwheel.

4This invention relates to a new machine for scouring and setting leather with greater rapidity and on a more economical plan than was heretofore in use.
At present most hides are.scoured and seti by hand, whereby the process becomes` both slow and ex.- pensive.
My invention consists in securing the scouring or setting tools a, whether they be made of metal, stone, glass, or other suitable material, to arms b b, that project from-or otherwise to-the rim or edge of a wheel or disk, A, the said wheel or disk being hung on a shaft, B, as shown.
vThe shaft B has its bearin s in a frame, O. The leather to'be scoured ir set is placed against A, and is provided with a 'projecting shank, c, which is connected with a crank-lever, F, or'other equivalent apparatus, whereby it can be moved toward or;
away from the wheel. A spring, d, serves to withdraw the concave from the wheelA when the power is removed from the handle F. v
The hide is placed upon the support D, and the part E is then forced toward the wheel; that part ot'. the'hide which is on E will be thoroughly scoured, and at the subsequent process set by the action of the rotary Scrapers.
The'shank c contains arubher cushion, e, which permits the part E to yield when thicker portions of the hide are 'brought under the action'of the tools a.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secureby Letters Patent-. I
1. The scouring and setting tools set into the edge or I'im of a rotating disk or wheel, as set forth, t-o operate as specified. 2. VThe sliding support E, connected with the levers F and springs d e, to operate in conjunction with the rotary scourer, as set forth. e
