Abstract

An equalization method, which equalizes a received signal by renewing a filtering coefficient of a filter in an off-line system using a pre-stored reference signal, comprising the following steps: (a) Determine if the signal input to a high definition TV (HDTV) includes a field sync; (b) If a field sync is detected in step (a), then a training sequence is stored in a memory; (c) Calculate the filtering coefficient according to a pre-determined algorithm; (d) Determine the level of the training sequence existing in step (b) and calculate a symbol error rate (SER) using the pre-stored reference signal; (e) The filtering coefficient obtained in step (c) is transmitted to the filter when the SER obtained in step (d) is lower than a predetermined value; and (f) Repeat steps (c) through (f) until a loop variable equals a loop constant, which indicates the number of off-line operations capable of being performed in a field, while increasing the loop variable when the SER obtained in step (d) is greater than or equal to a predetermined value.
