Abstract

The present invention provides a monitoring device consisting of a collecting unit (1) and a reading unit (2). The collecting unit (1) comprises a registration means (4), a control means (3) and a memory means (5) and is characterised by an activation detector (6) and a communication means (7) for wireless data transfer. The reading unit (2) comprises a control means (10) and is characterised by an activation means (11) and communication means (12) for wireless data transfer. The activation detector (6) and the activation means (11) operates with visible light and the communication means (7, 12) preferably comprise units with an AM or FM radio transceiver. The power supply (9) of the collecting unit (1) is preferably provided by means of a solar cell and a super capacitor. The invention provides further a procedure for controlling the monitoring device. The procedure comprises registration of parameters concerning the operation of the electrical power system, storing measurement data in the collecting unit (1). At suitable occasions, the collecting unit (1) is activated by light to initiate a transfer of data via radio waves to the reading unit (2). After the transfer, the transferring functions of collecting unit (1) return to an inactive state. Furthermore, the procedure may also comprise transferring of instructions concerning maintenance measures for the collecting unit (1).
