Abstract

A container (10) of polygonal cross-section has an outwardly facing protuberance (14) all around. The upper edge terminates in an outwardly facing flange (15) whose dimensions correspond to the dimensions of the protuberance (14) so that empty containers may be stacked one inside the other. The container is produced from a circular, cylindrical blank which is expanded first to form a circular conical container body and thereafter expanded by means of jaws to form the container body (21). The base (13) and lid are attached by seaming. The protuberance (14) is formed at the same time as any of the expansions is made or in a separate forming operation. <IMAGE>
