Abstract

A valve device for conveying a liquid (4) comprises a main bore (15) including a hydrophobic region (40). The main bore (15) includes a vent channel (60) in fluid communication with the hydrophobic region (40). Also disclosed is a method of passive valving using such a device and a method of introducing a gas pocket of predetermined size into a liquid.
