Abstract

The communication happens between two radio transceivers, Radio A and Radio B. The communication is termed "quasi-duplex" since it is not really a duplex system, but merely appears like one. The communication can happen in 3 modes. In mode 1, Radio A alternatively transmits its voice signal at low compression and receives synchronisation signals from Radio B. This is when Radio A has voice activity, and Radio B is silent. Mode 2 occurs when the inverse of this happens, that is, Radio B has voice activity and Radio A is silent. Finally, in mode 3, both radios have voice communication. The "quasi-duplex" feature takes place, where both transmissions are sent in bursts without any synchronising signals that gives the user the impression that communication in and out of the radios happen in different independent channels, when in actuality, only one channel with time division is used.
