Abstract

A multi-axis press fabric for the press section of a paper machine has a base fabric of edge connected spirally wound woven strip and several layers of staple fiber material needled into the base fabric. The yarns of the woven fabric strip lie in directions different from the machine and cross-machine directions of the base fabric to give the base fabric a multi-axial characteristic. The individual fibers in the layers of staple fibers are predominantly oriented at oblique angles relative to the machine direction MD to form a crisscrossed angular web.
