Abstract

A communications apparatus for use with a mains electricity distribution and/or transmission network 40 includes transceiver/modems for sending and receiving data from a cordless or mobile telephone system. The transceiver sends and receives signals to or from the telephone system using a carrier frequency in the range 500MHz to 1GHz. The modem converts this carrier frequency to or from a lower carrier frequency in the range 1 to 60 MHz, which can be transmitted through the electricity network 40.
