Abstract

Ved behandling av et flerkanals audiosignal med minst tre opprinnelige kanaler, blir en første nedblandekanal og en andre nedblandekanal tilveiebrakt (12) som avledes fra de opprinnelige kanaler. For en valgt, opprinnelig kanal av de opprinnelige kanaler, blir kanalsideinformasjonen beregnet (14) slik at en nedblandekanal eller en kombinert nedblandekanal med første og andre nedblandekanaler under vekting ved å bruke kanalsideinnformasjonen, fører til en approksimering av den valgte, opprinnelige kanal. Kanalsideinformasjonen og de første og andre nedblandekanaler danner utgangsdata (20) for overføring til en dekoder som for en lavnivådekoder bare dekoder de første og andre nedblandekanaler, eller i tilfellet av en høynivådekoder, tilveiebringer et fullstendig flerkanals audiosignal basert på nedblandekanalene og kanalsideinformasjonen.
