Description
The present invention relates to an offshore processing method, and specifically the present invention relates to an offshore processing method where a treatment solution is used to separate a component from a main fluid stream.
BAKGRUNN BACKGROUND
Raw process fluid extracted from a well is first separated into a raw natural gas stream and one or more liquid streams. The raw natural gas stream will usually contain acidic compounds such as carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide in addition to being saturated with water. The acidic compounds can, together with condensed water, form liquid acid during handling and transport which can lead to corrosion if all the equipment is not made of high-quality and high-cost steel. Furthermore, the presence of water in the natural gas during temperature and pressure changes can lead to the formation of solid hydrates which can lead to blocking of the passages through the equipment.
KJENT TEKNIKK PRIOR ART
It is well known to send the raw natural gas through various separation processes to remove acidic compounds, water and/or other compounds to obtain a natural gas stream that is ready for export.
When natural gas is conventionally recovered from a subsea well, the well stream is either transported to a topside facility as it is or a first phase separation takes place subsea before the gas and/or oil is transported to a topside facility for further treatment before export.
Known processes for removing acidic components/CC^ and water include separate absorption processes where the raw gas is brought into contact with a selective absorption solution. After contact with the absorbent solution, a gas stream which is depleted with respect to the compound absorbed in the absorbent solution is obtained. To remove several compounds or groups of compounds, the raw gas stream can be passed through a series of extractors using similar or different absorbent solutions.
The various absorbent solutions that include the selective absorbents require special treatment. For these and other reasons, the absorbent solutions are usually regenerated for reuse in the absorption process. The regeneration is normally carried out by heating and/or lowering the pressure in the rich absorption solution in a desorber, which leads to desorption of the absorbed compound from the solution. The solution is separated from the desorbed gas and cooled before it is used again. The desorption and regeneration process is demanding both in terms of energy, mainly heating, and in terms of structural space.
For subsea wells, the treatment processes are currently carried out on the topside, which requires that all the gas is brought to the surface and that all the process equipment is installed on the topside including absorbers, desorbers, treatment solution tanks, etc. Due to the fact that the topside facility handles all the produced the natural gas, then safety requirements must be met. The risk is basically significant now that flammable gas is handled and the safety requirements must be in place to reduce the risk. This increases the size and complexity of the top page facility.
The topside facility may be a floating platform or ship-like structure or it may be a rig structure with one or more legs fixed to the seabed.

The term "topside" as used here refers to a position near sea level. For floating topside installations, parts of the equipment may be installed above or below sea level but within or on the floating vessel or platform. For platforms with one or more legs connected to the seabed, the term "topside" shall be interpreted to refer to any position on the platform above sea level.
According to the present invention, a large part of the hydrocarbon gas handling takes place underwater, but some regeneration processes and side streams are handled on the top side.
As in this solution there are fluids that are transported between topside facilities and underwater facilities, depending on the water depth and the process pressure underwater, you can make use of the differences in operating pressure underwater and on the topside to reduce or possibly eliminate the need for further pressure-increasing/reducing devices such as such as pumps/throttles/lift gas systems etc., in the system. The hydraulic head and the transport itself will help in the pressure increase and the pressure decrease for the fluids that are transported between the seabed and the top side.

Prinsipiell beskrivelse av oppfinnelsen Principal description of the invention
Figure 1 illustrates how, according to the present invention, an unrefined gas stream 11 comprising a compound to be removed is introduced into an extraction system 14, 16 located underwater. In the illustrated embodiment, the extraction system is a two-stage process with a first direct extractor (mixing device) 14 and a traditional extraction column 16. Nevertheless, the present invention is not limited to this embodiment, but any extraction system that is available for underwater setups can be used. In a direct extractor, the gas stream is contacted with a treatment solution stream introduced through pipe 23. The resulting gas treatment solution mixture continues as stream 17 into the extraction column 16. Lean treatment solution is supplied to the column from pipe 21. In the illustrated embodiment, the treatment solution for the direct extractor is obtained from the column 16 at a level above the gas inlet, but nevertheless the present invention is not limited to this solution because lean treatment solution can also be supplied to the direct extractor in addition to the column. The treatment solution comprises one or more units which absorb with at least some selectivity the compound to be removed from the raw gas stream. A device and solvent/diluent that can be used to form an effective treatment solution can be selected by the user depending on the compound to be removed and the prevailing conditions within the system. During contact with the treatment solution, the compound to be removed is absorbed into the solution. Thus, the raw gas leaves the system, at least partially depleted of the compound to be removed, over the top of the column through pipe line 31. Thus, the main stream of the raw gas remains under water during the treatment process. The rich treatment solution leaves the extractor 16 through the outlet pipe line 25 at the bottom. In the illustrated embodiment, a pump 18 is provided to force the rich treatment solution to continue up through the riser or pipeline 27. This is only an illustration of one possible way to ensure transport of the rich treatment solution up through the pipeline 27, and other methods to provide the necessary pressure and current on may as well be used. On a topside facility 90, a regeneration system 20 is installed. The system receives the rich solution from pipeline 27, desorbs and separates the absorbed compound therefrom and obtains a depleted treatment solution which is sent back to the subsea extraction system through pipeline/riser 21. The desorbed compound leaves the regeneration unit 20 as stream 29.
In one aspect of the present invention, the compound to be removed is an acid gas, such as CO2 and/or H2S and the treatment solution comprises an amine-based CO2 absorbent. In another embodiment, the compound to be removed from the gas is water, and the treatment solution is a water absorbent such as triethylene glycol or another glycol-based water absorbent compound.
Figure 2 illustrates a further embodiment of the present invention. Also illustrated here is the first treatment of a well fluid 1. First, the well fluid 1 enters a phase separator 2, where the gas stream is separated from the liquid. In the illustrated embodiment, a water stream 19 is sent to a produced water treatment system 4, and the oil stream 16 is sent to an oil treatment system 6. The gas 3 is first cooled with a cooler 8 to obtain a cooled gas 5. The cooling leads to the condensation of higher hydrocarbons that are separated in separator 10. The liquid stream 7 is mixed via pump 12 and pipe 9 with the main oil stream from separator 2. The gas 11 that disappears over the top of separator 10 is subjected to a system and a treatment as discussed in connection with figure 1 The resulting treated gas 31 enters a second system according to the present invention comprising a direct extractor 34, where it is brought into contact with a treatment solution stream 43. The resulting mixture is fed into an extraction column 36. The rich treatment solution passes out via the bottom as stream 45, via pump 38 and is transported via pipeline 47 to a top side installation 90 and a regen ring unit 40. Here the compound that was absorbed in the rich treatment solution is released and this leads to a compound stream 49 and a lean treatment solution 41 which is returned to the underwater extractor 36.
The treated gas stream 51 exiting over the top of 36 can be compressed in compressor 52 and the temperature of the compressed gas 53 can be controlled by heat exchanger 54, thereby providing a stream of treated gas 55 adjusted for pipeline transport.
In one embodiment of the present invention, CO2 is removed in the first extractor 16 and water is removed from the gas in the second extractor 36, whereby the resulting gas is "sweetened and dewpointed" to enable pipeline transport. The CO229 that is released from the treatment solution 27 inside the unit 20 is then in this embodiment transferred to a CO2 injection system 60 where it is compressed or otherwise prepared for injection via line 61. The gas stream 31 is a neutral gas stream. Water present in the gas is absorbed in the treatment solution 47. The removed compound in stream 49 is water and this stream can be released into the atmosphere. The gas flow 51 is neutral and dry and as such is prepared for transport.
Figure 3 illustrates a pipeline configuration which forms an aspect of the present invention. Here, pipelines 121 and 127 correspond to pipelines 21 and 27 in Figure 1, but are arranged as a pipe-in-pipe riser. In the illustrated embodiment, the inner tube 127 of the two concentric tubes transports the lean treatment solution, while the outer tube 121 of the two concentric tubes transports the rich treatment solution. The topside regeneration of the treatment solution normally involves adding heat to the solution to release the absorbed compound, the tube-in-tube setup allows for heat transfer from the hot lean treatment solution to the rich treatment solution thereby enabling a more energy efficient process in addition to to reduce the number of connections between the subsea installation and the topside facility.
