Een bijzonder voordeel van een dergelijke wijnfles is dat meerdere van deze flessen compact kunnen worden gestapeld c.q. gebundeld voor transport daarvan. Met andere woorden kan met de wijnfles volgens de uitvinding het aantal flessen per volume-eenheid worden vergroot en derhalve efficiënter van de beperkte ruimte in een vliegtuig gebruik worden gemaakt. De fles volgens de uitvinding heeft een groot voordeel ten opzichte van bekende verpakkingen voor dranken, welke veelal relatief ongeschikt zijn voor het efficiënt opslaan en uitserveren daarvan. Dientengevolge staan conventionele dranken doorgaans bovenop een voor vliegtuigen ingerichte catering trolley, daar de bovenzijde van deze trolley niet door wanden van de trolley wordt omgeven en derhalve aan de bovenzijde van de trolley meer ruimte en indelingsvrijheid is voor de genoemde dranken. De flessen volgens de onderhavige uitvinding kunnen daarentegen dicht tegen elkaar rechtopstaand dan wel liggend op elkaar gestapeld in een houder in en/of op de trolley worden geplaatst. Hierdoor wordt efficiënt gebruik gemaakt van de aan boord van een vliegtuig aanwezige ruimte. Oblong wine bottle according to claim 1, wherein the diameter of the circular cross section of the body is at most 10% greater than the diameter of the circular cross section of the neck.

Elongated wine bottle according to claim 1 or 2, further comprising a cap provided along an inner surface with an internal screw thread corresponding to the external screw thread of the neck, such that the cap can be screwed onto the neck to open it the end of the wine bottle to be closed airtight or not, the outer surface of the cap being at least substantially coplanar with the outer surface of the body of the wine bottle.
