Description

Packing Box
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[ 01 ] The invention relates to a packing box for shipping and displaying articles packed in the packing box, the packing box comprising a separation line in a shipping configuration of the packing box, the separation line allowing to separate a separation part from the packing box to leave a display part in a display configuration of the packing box.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[ 02 ] Packing boxes are widely applied for holding, storing and transporting articles. The articles, or products, are produced at a manufacturing site, where they generally are packed into the packing box in dedicated packing lines. Subsequently, they are usually shipped to a location, such as a retail store, where the articles will be distributed or sold. In between packing and shipping, and in between shipping and distribution the packing boxes with articles may be stored and/or change from one transportation means to another. The packing boxes should therefore be well suited for packing, transportation and handling.
[ 03 ] It has become customary to display the packing box or part of the packing box with articles in, for instance, a super market. Customers can take the articles directly from the packing box. Packing boxes have been proposed specifically for this purpose. However, they usually appear quite damaged when put up for display with the products.
[ 04 ] Further, packing boxes that are designed to allow to put up products for display in the packing box are not well suited for packing, storing and transportation of products or articles in the packing box. Therefore, there is a need for an improved packing box.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[ 05 ] It is an objective of the invention to provide a packing box that allows to put up articles for display in a part of the packing box.
[ 06 ] It is another or alternative objective of the invention to provide a packing box that can efficiently be packed with articles.
[ 07 ] It is yet another or alternative objective of the invention to provide a packing box that is very well suited for storing and transporting articles.
[ 08 ] It is yet another or alternative objective of the invention to provide a packing box that is well suited for stacking of multiple packing boxes.
[ 09 ] At least one of the above objectives is achieved by a packing box for shipping and displaying articles packed in the packing box, the packing box comprising - a separation line in a shipping configuration of the packing box, the separation line allowing to separate a separation part from the packing box to leave a display part in a display configuration of the packing box; - panels connected to one another and defining sides of the packing box in the shipping configuration; - flaps connected to the panels to cooperate with at least one of - - one or more of the flaps; and - - one or more of the panels, and defining further sides of the packing box in the shipping configuration, wherein the separation line comprises - an intersecting line in an intersected one of the panels, the intersecting line extending at least substantially between first and second flank sides of the intersected panel, and providing a full intersection through a thickness of the intersected panel and having first and second ends; - a first tear line connecting at the first end of the intersecting line; and - a second tear line connecting at the second end of the intersecting line.
[ 10 ] The intersected panel can be used as a front panel of the display part of the packing box in the display configuration. The upper edge of the front panel is a side of the intersecting line in the shipping configuration of the packing box. Therefore, the front panel of the display part provides a nice clean upper edge for presentation purposes.
[ 11 ] In an embodiment the intersecting line extends at least from the first flank side of the intersected panel to the second flank side of the intersected panel to provide a full clean upper edge of the front panel of the display part of the packing box in the display configuration.
[ 12 ] In an embodiment the first and second flank sides of the intersected panel are opposing flank sides.
[ 13 ] In an embodiment the first and second ends of the intersecting line coincide with the first and second sides of the intersected panel, respectively.
[14] In an embodiment the first tear line extends in one of a panel and flap connected at the first flank side of the intersected panel.
[15] In an embodiment the second tear line extends in one of a panel and flap connected at the second flank side of the intersected panel.
[ 16 ] In an embodiment the panels define a circumference of the packing box in the shipping configuration, and the separation line extends around the circumference of the packing box in the shipping configuration through the panels and respective flap(s).
[17] In an embodiment at least one of the first and second tear lines extends through a crease at a connection in between a panel and one of the panels and the flaps connected to the respective panel.
[18] In an embodiment at least one of the first and second tear lines extends through a crease at a connection in between the intersected panel and one of the panels and the flaps connected to the intersected panel.
[ 19 ] In an embodiment the tear line comprises a perforation.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS
[ 21 ] The packing box according to the invention shown in figures 1a to 4 comprises panels 10, 20, 30, 40. The panels are connected to one another and define sides of the packing box in the shipping configuration shown in figures 1A and 1B. A flap 13, 33 or 43 connected to panel 10, 30 or 40, respectively, is attached to panel 40, 20 or 10, respectively, for instance, by a glue, so that the panels define a circumference of the packing box in the shipping configuration. Further flaps 11, 12, 21, 22, 31, 32, 41, 42 are attached to the respective panels 10, 20, 30, 40 to define additional sides and to provide a closed packing box in the shipping configuration. These flaps may be folded over one another or may be attached to one another, for instance, by a glue, to close the respective sides. The figures show that flaps 11, 12, 31 and 32 have been folded in first and that flaps 21, 22, 41 and 42 have subsequently been folded in and glued onto flaps 11, 12, 31 and 32. Alternatively, flaps 21, 22, 41 and 42 may folded in first and flaps 11, 12, 31 and 32 folded in subsequently and glued onto flaps 21, 22, 41 and 42. The packing box shown is made from cardboard, especially corrugated cardboard.
[22] The packing box in the shipping configuration has a separation line 50 that extends around the circumference through the panels and respective flaps. The separation line allows separating separation part 2 from the packing box in the shipping configuration. After separation of the separation part 2 a display part 1 is left to provide a display configuration of the packing box as is shown in figures 2A, 2B and 2C. The display parts of the packing box shown in figures 2A, 2B and 2C correspond with the blanks for the packing box shown in figures 3A, 3B and 3C, respectively.
[23 ] The separation line 50 comprises an intersecting line 51 in the front panel 10 of the packing box. The intersecting line 51 extends in between flank sides of the front panel 10, being an intersected one of the panels of the packing box. In the embodiment of figures 2A and 3A the intersecting line 51 extends between flank sides connecting front panel 10 with flap 13 and panel 20, and in the embodiments of figures 2B and 3B, and figures 2C and 3C the intersecting line extends between flank sides connecting the front panel 10 with panels 20 and 40. In alternative embodiments the intersecting line 51 may end shortly before the respective flank sides, or after the respective flank sides to extend in the connected flap and/or panel(s), as is shown, for example, in figures 5A and 5B, respectively. The intersecting line 51 extends at least substantially between the flank sides to cover a major or the full distance between the respective flank sides. Further, the intersecting line 51 provides a full intersection through a thickness of the intersected panel (front panel) 10 such that the intersected panel parts 10.1 and 10.2 are not connected to one another across the intersecting line 51. The intersecting line provides a full cut through the thickness of the intersected panel.
[24 ] The intersecting line 51 in the embodiments shown in the figures ends at first and second ends 51a, 51b at flank sides of the intersected panel (front panel) 10, which flank sides connect to a flap or an adjacent panel. In the embodiment of figures 2A and 3A, tear lines 52 and 55 in panel 20 and flap 13, respectively, connect to the first and second ends 51a, 51b of the intersecting line 51, respectively. In the embodiments of figures 2B and 3B, and 2C and 3C tear lines 52 and 54 in panels 20 and 40, respectively, connect to the first and second ends 51a, 51b of the intersecting line 51, respectively. The separation line 50 comprises further a tear line 53 in rear panel 30 to extend around the circumference of the packing box. A handle opening 60 is incorporated in the tear line 53 in the rear panel, but may be dispensed with or located otherwise in the tear lines of the separation line 50 in alternative embodiments, as is shown, for example, in figures 6A and 6B, respectively. The tear lines comprise a perforation provided in the respective flaps and panels of the packing box. The tear lines connect to one another and to the intersecting line to provide the separation line 50.
[25 ] Articles are to be packed into the packing box before closure thereof to allow shipment and storage of the packed articles in the shipping configuration of the packing box. It is intended that the articles are packed inside the packing box with their front sides (viewing sides) towards the front panel 10 and the bottoms of the articles towards the bottom side provided by flaps 11,21,31 and 41. After packing articles the packing box will be shipped. When the packing box with articles in the shipping configuration has arrived at, for instance, a retail store, a separation part 2 is detached from a display part 1 of the packing box by separation along the separation line 50, especially by tearing the packing box along the tear lines. It is intended that a user grabs the packing box at the handle opening 60 to exert an appropriate force. Alternatively, the user may exert a pushing force at a tear line perpendicular to the packing box to provide a local tearing of the tear line, after which the tear line can be further torn to separate the separation part 2 from the display part 1. The articles are then put up for display in the display part in the display configuration of the packing box. The display part 1 is put up for display with its front side 10.1 as the viewing side towards customers. The front sides (viewing sides) of the articles will then also be directed towards the customers. The top flank side 10.1a of the front side 10.1 of the display part 1 is a side of the intersection line 51 in the shipping configuration of the packing box and provides therefore a nice clean edge for presentation purposes. It will not be torn or otherwise be damaged since it was not attached to the opposing edge of the intersecting line 51 of the separation line 50.
[ 26 ] Figures 7A and 7B show another embodiment of a packing box in its shipping configuration. The display part 1 in the display configuration of the packing box is shown in figure 7C and the corresponding blank in figure 7D. The various panels 10, 20, 30, 40 are connected to one another and flap 13 of panel 10 is attached to panel 40, for instance, by a glue, so as to define sides and a circumference of the packing box. Further flaps 11, 12, 21, 22, 31, 32, 41, 42 close additional sides of the packing box in the shipping configuration. The intersected panel (front panel) 10 again comprises an intersecting line 51 with ends 51a and 51b on flank sides of panel 10. The intersecting line 51 has a curved configuration in the embodiment shown, but may also be a straight line as in the other embodiments shown or have any other suitable configuration. Tear lines 51.1, 55 connect to the ends of intersecting line 51 and pass through a crease in between panels 10 and 20 and panel 10 and flap 13, respectively. Creases in between panels and flaps may already be present in the blanks form which the packing boxes are folded, or may form at the time the packing box is folded and constituted from the blank. The separation line 50 further comprises tear lines 52.2 and 54 passing through creases in between panel 20 and flap part 22.2 of flap 22, and panel 40 and flap part 42.2 of flap 42, respectively, and tear lines 56.1, 56.2 in flaps 22, 42. A handle opening 60 is formed by cutouts incorporated in the tear lines 56.1 and 56.2 provided in flaps 22 and 42, respectively. The packing box is transformed form the shipping configuration shown in figures 7A and 7B by grabbing the box at the handle opening 60 and to apply a suitable force to tear the tear lines and separate the separation part 2 from the display part 1. The display part 1 of the packing box in the display configuration provides a nice clean upper edge 10.1a for presentation purposes.
