The invention further relates to a method of treating a chronic or acute wound to a human or animal body and to the use of a film-shaped material.
20 Een dergelijke drainagesysteem is bekend uit hetSuch a drainage system is known from the
Patent 3,324,855, which, however, discloses a relatively complex system for aspirating the liquid absorbed by the sponge-like member. Dutch drainage application 9301063 also discloses such a drainage system, in which the covering film-shaped material is made of polyurethane. It has now been found possible to use a more manageable film material that is more manageable and that ensures a lower pressure at the wound area.

Preferably, a capping film material is used wherein at least 70% by weight of the long chain glycol group 30 has a carbon: oxygen ratio in the range of 2.0 to 2.4 and the amount of short chain ester units 50-75 wt% of the copolyester. In particular, it has been found that the Sympatex material (AKZO brand) can be used in this context.
The film-shaped material used according to the invention is known per se from European patent applications 0 178 740, 0 111 360 and from 0 382 801. EP-A-0 178 740 does disclose the use of such a material for covering wounds, but in 1 0 0 5 7 2 6 3 the film-shaped material has 1-15 wt.% iodine or 0.1-8 wt.% 1,6-bis (4-chlorophenyldiguanido) hexane incorporated. From EP-A-0 382 801 the preferred material to be used such as Sympatex® is known for use as an intermediate layer in shoes. From EP-A-0 111 360 a method is known for manufacturing the film-shaped material and its use as waterproof clothing and tent material. However, these patent applications do not indicate the use of this film-shaped material in a drainage system as used according to the invention, in particular for covering a drainage system for use in chronic or acute wounds.
The invention further relates to a method for treating a chronic or acute wound to a human or animal body by applying a sponge-like material that absorbs liquid on or in the wound and which material is provided with a drainage system, after which the drainage system is covered with the film-like covering material, for which the above-mentioned foil is used. The drainage system can consist of a pipe or several pipes, but also of a cover plate (preferably of plastic) provided with a few drainage openings on one side and with a connecting piece for a drainage pipe on the other side, which cover plate is provided with the side. of the drainage holes is placed on the organ. The drainage pipe is pushed into the connecting piece with one end, the other end is or is provided with a connecting element for applying a reduced pressure therewith. Thereafter, a reduced pressure is applied to the drainage system which is maintained for some time to allow the fluid from the wound, especially the fluid contained in the wound, to be aspirated.
The method which is used for the use of the drainage system according to the invention using the foil material described is explained in Dutch patent application 9301063, which can therefore also be regarded as inserted in so far as the method to be used is concerned.
Because the film material according to the invention is relatively thin (in particular about 15 µm), it is easy to handle. 35 For special applications, this film can be used up to thicknesses of 100 m. Furthermore, it is possible to provide one side of this film with an adhesive so that this film can be placed easily over the wound area / drainage system and secured on the intact skin. If this film is not provided with an adhesive, the intact skin in the vicinity of the wound area is provided with an adhesive / sealing material on which the film is placed to hermetically seal the wound area / drainage system.
