본 발명은 위성 방송, CATV, 공중파 방송, VOD 등의 비디오 서비스 및 음성 전화 등의 통신 서비스를 가입자 댁내 장치까지 전송하는 CATV 네트워크에 관한 것으로, 종래의 디지탈 CATV 네트워크에서 사용하는 데이터 전송 방식이 등기식 전송 방법임으로 인하여, 다양한 비트레이트 및 가변적인 대역폭 설정이 요구되는 멀티미디어 서비스를 수용하기는 어려웠던 점을, CATV 네트워크를 ATM 네트워크 구조로 구성하여, 서비스 데이터를 53 바이트 셀로 변환한 후에 데이터 전송이 필요할 때만 전송하는 ATM 전송 방식을 사용함으로써 해결하였다.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1.
