Description
The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for providing a cloud-based IPTV service, and more particularly, to a method and apparatus for providing an additional service on a cloud basis.
Internet Protocol Television (hereinafter referred to as IPTV) service is a converged communication / broadcasting service, which provides channel broadcasting, music, video contents, and interactive data from the headend to the Internet through a set-top box. The service provided by the subscriber terminal. Therefore, the subscriber station can be provided with various contents and additional services provided by the Internet through the set-top box. In this case, the set-top box overlays the additional service on the screen on which the content is being played and provides it to the subscriber terminal or through a window separate from the content.
That is, when the set-top box receives an MPEG (Motion Picture Expert Group) -2 transport stream (TS) packet from the IPTV headend, the set-top box is associated with additional service and audio and video information corresponding to channel broadcasting from the MPEG-2 TS packet. The information is extracted, the audio information and the video information are decoded, respectively, and output to the subscriber station. The additional service related information is processed and synthesized into the decoded video information and output to the subscriber station.
As such, in order to provide the additional service to the subscriber station together with the channel broadcast, a separate middleware is required for processing the additional service related information in the set-top box. Therefore, the cost of the set-top box increases and there is a limit to the miniaturization of the set-top box. In particular, because the set-top box is installed in the house, if the cost increases, it will adversely affect the activation of the IPTV service.
In addition, since additional service developers also need to develop additional services to meet the specifications of various set-top boxes, the set-top box has a significant limitation on the development of new additional services. In order to receive new supplementary service information, a service subscriber may sometimes have to download an application program required for the set-top box.
The technical problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide a cloud-based IPTV service providing method and apparatus that can simplify the set-top box while the developer can develop additional services without restrictions according to the specifications of the set-top box.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, a cloud server for providing an IPTV service to a subscriber terminal is provided. The cloud server includes a receiver, an additional service information processor, a capture unit, and a transmission controller. The receiver receives a transport stream frame including information related to an additional service and channel broadcast information from a headend, and extracts information related to the additional service. The additional service information processor is configured to display information related to the extracted additional service on a screen. The capture unit captures screen information related to an additional service to be displayed on the screen. The transmission control unit transmits the captured additional service related screen information to a set top box. In this case, the captured additional service-related screen information is provided to the subscriber station by being overlaid on the channel broadcast information in the set top box.
The cloud server may further include a user input processing unit, and the user input processing unit may process or transmit the user input information received through the set top box to the headend.
The transmission control unit may transmit the captured additional service related screen information to the set top box through a transmission channel.
According to another embodiment of the present invention, a set top box for providing an IPTV service to a subscriber station is provided. The set top box includes a receiver, a video decoder, a transmission controller, and a synthesizer. The receiver receives a transport stream frame including additional service related information and channel broadcast information from a headend, and extracts the channel broadcast information. The video decoder decodes the video information of the channel broadcast information and transmits it to the subscriber station. The transport channel unit receives screen information related to the captured additional service from a cloud server that receives and processes the additional service related information. The synthesizer overlays screen information related to the captured additional service on the decoded video information and transmits the screen information to the subscriber station.
The set top box may further include a user input processor, and the user input processor may process input information received from the user through the set top box or transmit the input information to the cloud server through the transmission controller.

According to another embodiment of the present invention, a method for providing an IPTV service to a subscriber station in an IPTV service providing system is provided. The method for providing an IPTV service includes receiving a transport stream frame including additional service related information and channel broadcast information from a headend in a cloud server and a set-top box, respectively, and extracting the additional service related information from the transport stream frame in the cloud server.
