PURPOSE: A portable terminal having a side touch screen is provided to mount a touch screen at some or entire portions of an edge on a lateral plane. CONSTITUTION: A front screen(301) is installed in front of a portable terminal(200), and a touch screen controlled by a user is placed at the lateral side of portable terminal. The touch screen is divided into at least one region. If the two regions on the touch screen are withdrawn toward the outer direction, the image displayed on the front screen is expanded at the axis of the central point.

The present invention relates to a portable terminal, and more particularly, to a portable terminal equipped with a touch screen on part or all of the side edges.

In general, a touch screen is a position where an input means is touched when an input means such as a human hand or a stylus touches a character or a specific position displayed on the screen without using a keyboard. It is an input / output device that receives input data directly from the screen so that specific processing can be performed by the stored software. Accordingly, the touch screen is an input device and a display device that perform input and display of information on one screen. The touch screen is a new input device that can replace an input device such as a mouse and a keyboard, and its use area is gradually expanding. When the touch screen is used for the display device of the portable terminal, the existing keypad can be eliminated, so that the display area can be increased and the user can intuitively operate.
