The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for providing a user interface.

1 is a view showing a conventional user interface providing apparatus.

Referring to FIG. 1, menu items are simply arranged in a line on the menu screen 110, and the four-way keys 122, 124, 126, and 128 have only a function of indicating a direction. For example, when the menu item 114 of "picture" is highlighted, pressing the left key 124 or the up key 122 moves the highlight to the "music" 112, and the right key 128. Or down key 126 moves the highlight to " movie " In order to select a desired menu item so that the corresponding function is executed, it is necessary to continuously press the arrow keys until the desired menu item is highlighted, and then press the OK button 130 in addition.

The conventional user interface providing apparatus as described above has a problem in that a large number of button manipulations are required to execute a function desired by a user, and additional buttons or input keys are needed to support various functions and interactions.

An object of the present invention is to provide a method and apparatus for providing a user interface that provides a convenient and intuitive user interface using a narrow space.

A user interface providing apparatus according to the present invention for achieving the above object is a rotatable input unit for indicating the movement and selection of the menu; A controller configured to generate a menu screen having a layout symmetric to the layout of the input unit, and to select a predetermined item among the generated menu screen and a menu displayed on the input unit based on an input of the input unit; And a display unit configured to output a menu screen generated by the controller.

Preferably, the input unit further includes a touch sensor for sensing a touch in at least two directions and a menu display unit for outputting a predetermined menu, wherein the controller is a direction in which the touch is detected when a predetermined touch is detected by the touch sensor. Based on the control, the item of the menu output to the display unit is rotated to be output to the menu display unit.

Preferably, the controller controls the menu display unit to output an item of a predetermined menu corresponding to the content, based on the type of the content output to the display unit.

Preferably, the menu display unit includes a liquid crystal display (LCD), a light emitting diode (LED), or an organic light emitting diode (OLED).

In addition, the user interface providing method according to the present invention for achieving the above object comprises the steps of generating a menu screen having a layout symmetric with the layout of the rotatable input unit for instructing the movement and selection of the menu; Outputting the generated menu screen; And performing a function corresponding to the selected item when a predetermined item is selected from the output menu screen and a menu displayed on the input unit by an input through the input unit.

Hereinafter, with reference to the accompanying drawings will be described a preferred embodiment of the present invention;

2 is a diagram illustrating an embodiment of an apparatus for providing a user interface according to the present invention.

2, an apparatus for providing a user interface according to the present invention includes an input unit 210, a controller 220, and a display 230.

The input unit 210 receives an input for instructing movement and selection of a menu and is configured to be rotatable.

In this case, the input unit 210 may further include a touch sensor that senses touch in at least two directions.

Referring to FIG. 3, the input unit according to the present invention includes a rotation interface 310, a selection button 320, a cancel button 330, and a power button 340.

The rotation interface 310 is an interface for moving a menu output from the display 350.

In this case, the rotation interface 310 may be configured to include touch sensors 311 to 317 by dividing the partition. In such a case, the touch sensors 311 to 317 detect the touch to determine the moving direction in the menu.

The selection button 320 is a button for selecting one item from a menu moved by the rotation of the rotation interface 310.

The cancel button 330 stops the execution of the function or cancels the selection by the selection button 320 when the function corresponding to the item selected by the selection button 320 is being performed. Button to receive a command.

The power button 340 is a button for receiving a command for controlling power of a portable device including an input unit.

The controller 220 generates a menu screen having a layout symmetric to the layout of the input unit 210, and selects a predetermined item from a menu screen generated based on the input of the input unit 210 and a menu displayed on the input unit 210. Control as possible.

In this case, the menu displayed on the input unit 210 may be displayed on an interface constituting each input unit 210 by text or the like, or may be displayed using a liquid crystal or the like.

Preferably, the input unit 210 may further include a menu display unit (not shown) for outputting a predetermined menu. In this case, the menu display unit may be configured of a liquid crystal display (LCD), a light emitting diode (LED), or an organic light emitting diode (OLED), but is not limited thereto.

The display 230 outputs a menu screen generated by the controller 220.

4 is a diagram illustrating an embodiment of an operation of a controller according to the present invention.

Referring to FIG. 4, the display 450 outputs a menu of layouts that are symmetric to the layouts of the input units 410 to 440. That is, the rotation interface 410 of the input unit has a semicircle shape, and the controller 220 controls the display unit 450 to output a menu having a semicircular layout that is symmetrical thereto.

In this case, after moving to one item of a menu output to the display 450 by using the rotation of the rotation interface 410 of the input unit, the moved item may be selected by clicking the OK button 420. That is, one item among five items of 'Setting', 'Music' 'Video', 'Radio', and 'Photo' displayed on the display 450 may be selected.

In addition, when a predetermined menu is displayed on the rotation interface 410 by text or the like, a menu set in the rotation interface 410 may be selected in addition to the five items.

Finally, after the menu output on the display 450 is output to the rotation interface 410 including the menu display unit, one item may be selected from the menus output on the rotation interface 410.

For example, in FIG. 4, when the rotation interface 410 is rotated in the clockwise direction, the items output to the display 450 may be set by the controller 220 to move in the clockwise direction, in this case, the display unit 450. The 'setting' item located at the top of the may move in a clockwise direction and output to the rotation interface 410. That is, in this case, a menu item fixed to the rotation interface 410 is not set, and a new menu item may be set to the rotation interface 410 by the movement of the rotation interface 410.

As described above, when the menu is set to rotate in rotation between the display 450 and the rotation interface 410, a much larger number of items are displayed than the items of the menu output to the display 450 in FIG. 4. It can be arranged in a circle and has the advantage of reducing the space occupied by the input unit.

In addition, in comparison with FIG. 3, in FIG. 4, the select button 320, the cancel button 330, and the power button 340 of FIG. 3 are respectively an OK button 420, a semicircular arrow button 430, and M. It can be seen that the shape of the button 440 has been changed. Here, the semicircle arrow button 430 functions as a cancel button 330, and the M button 440 is a button for receiving a command for outputting a menu to the display 450.

As described above, the configuration of the input unit in FIG. 3 and FIG. 4 is different from the reason why the input unit of FIG. 3 is set to a menu item fixed to text in an interface constituting each input unit. In FIG. 4, the input unit is a menu display unit. This is because it may further include a menu item of a different type on the interface of each input unit according to the situation.

5 is a view illustrating a second embodiment of a control unit according to the present invention.

Referring to FIG. 5, a screen for reproducing music is output to the display unit 510, and an item of a menu corresponding thereto is output to the input unit 520.

As described above, the controller 220 may control the menu display of the input unit 520 to output an item of a predetermined menu corresponding to the content, based on the type of the content output to the display unit 510.

That is, since the display unit 510 outputs a screen for music playback in FIG. 5, the controller 220 may control menu items such as play, fast forward, backward, and volume up / down required for controlling music playback. This control is to be output to the input unit 520.

The user can operate the input unit 520 intuitively and conveniently while viewing the menu item of the input unit 520 changed according to the type of content.

6 is a flowchart illustrating a user interface providing method according to the present invention.

In operation 610, a menu screen having a layout symmetric to the layout of the rotatable input unit indicating movement and selection of the menu is generated.

In operation 620, the generated menu screen is output.

In operation 630, when a predetermined item is selected from the menu screen output by the input through the input unit and the menu displayed on the input unit, a function corresponding to the selected item is performed.

Meanwhile, the above-described embodiments of the present invention can be written as a program that can be executed in a computer, and can be implemented in a general-purpose digital computer that operates the program using a computer-readable recording medium.

The computer-readable recording medium may be a magnetic storage medium (for example, a ROM, a floppy disk, a hard disk, etc.), an optical reading medium (for example, a CD-ROM, a DVD, etc.) and a carrier wave (for example, the Internet). Storage media).
